5. Preparations
At the rear of the device, open the battery compartment. Set the "°C/°F" switch (under the batteries) to the desired
position. Insert 2 AAA batteries, respecting the polarity indications. Close the battery compartment.
6. Operating Instructions
Point the meter at the object to be measured and press the measurement button (fig.2 #3). The display backlight will
come on and a reading will appear. As long as the measurement button is pressed, the device is measuring and the
"SCAN" indication (fig.3 #3) is displayed. When the measurement button is released, the "HOLD" indication comes
on and the last measured value stays on the display. If the measurement button is not pressed within 7 to 8 seconds,
the device will automatically switch off.
Press the flashlight button (fig.2 #4) to switch the flashlight (fig.2 #1) on. The flashlight is on for as long as the button
is pressed.
7. Battery Replacement
When the battery icon flashes on the display (fig.3 #1), the batteries need to be replaced. Open the battery
compartment at the rear of the device, remove the old batteries, insert fresh ones and close the battery compartment.
Do not mix used and new batteries, different battery types and batteries with different capacities.
8. Practical Tips
• Infrared thermometers measure an object's surface temperature. The optical part of the device gathers data on
the target object through the IR sensor. The electronics translate the information into a temperature reading.
• Make sure that the target is larger than the diameter of the beam. The smaller the target object, the closer you
should be to it. The target should be at least twice as large as the beam if accuracy is critical.
• The size of the area measured by the beam becomes larger as your distance to the target object increases.
• Avoid temperature measurements on shiny or polished metal surfaces. The beam might reflect into your eyes.
• The device cannot measure through transparent materials (e.g. glass). It will measure the temperature of the material.
• Steam, smoke, frost, dust etc... can cause inaccurate readings by interfering with the optics. Clean the surface first.
• 90% of all organic materials and painted or oxidised surfaces have an emissivity of 0.95 (factory setting in this
device). Shiny or polished surfaces will generate inaccurate readings. Cover the surface with black paint or
masking tape. Allow some time for the paint or tape to reach the same temperature as the material underneath.
