9- OPTIMIST COMPATIBILITY
The O'pen BIC has been designed to be compatible with the Optimist rig, rudder
and daggerboard components. First, you can start sailing with the O'pen BIC hull
only, using the rig that you already have from the Optimist. This will give you a
boat that is more fun and powerful than the Optimist, yet easier to handle and
progress on given that you should be familiar with the performance of the Spiritsail.
Later on, once you are comfortable with this combination, you can upgrade to the
full O'pen BIC 4,5m² rig and then the boat comes into its own, becoming the true
glide machine that it is meant to be!
When using your Optimist components with the O'pen BIC, please note the
following:
a. Optimist Rig
In order for the mast to fi t snugly in the mast cup of the hull, it is necessary
to use an adaptor ring. This adaptor ring is available as an accessory to the
O'pen BIC, please contact your original point of purchase for more information.
b. Optimist Daggerboard
The Optimist daggerboard will fi t directly into the O'pen BIC.
c. Optimist Rudder
The Optimist rudder head may need modifi cation before it can be used on the
O'pen BIC. The O'pen BIC rudder mount design is based on one of the most
commonly available "school" versions of the Optimist. However, amongst the
many different Optimist manufacturers, the rudder mounting system is not
always consistent. Therefore, rudder compatability between the Optimist and
the O'pen BIC should be taken on a case-by-case basis. Modifi cation of the
Optimist rudder may be required before it can be used on the O'pen BIC.
