ATTENTION
Working near lead-acid battery poles is dangerous. Batteries produce explosive gases during recharge or
testing.
Store the tester in a dry place; do not expose it to rain or snow.

PERSONAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

1. Do not work on lead-acid batteries in the absence of other people.
2. Make sure that the area around the battery is well ventilated before starting the test.
3. Wear safety goggles and protective clothing.
4. Always keep a supply of clean water and soap at hand, in case the battery acid should come into contact
with skin, eyes or clothing.
5. If the battery acid should come into contact with skin or clothing, immediately wash with soap and water.
If acid gets into the eyes, immediately wash in cold running water for at least ten minutes and immediately
seek a doctor.
6. Never smoke or work with naked flames or tools which produce sparks near the battery or engine.
7. Be careful not to hit the battery with any metal or hard bodies.
8. Be careful not to drop any metal tools onto the battery; these might produce a spark or short-circuit the
battery or any other electrical parts, and may cause an explosion.
9. Take off any personal metal objects, including rings, bracelets, necklaces and watches when working with
the poles of a lead-acid battery; these might cause a high-intensity short-circuit.
10. Clean the battery terminals, making sure that no corrosive agents come into contact with your eyes.
11. Make sure that the battery is not cracked or damaged; if the battery is cracked or damaged, do not use
the tester.
12. If the battery is not maintenance free, add distilled water to each cell, until the level specified by the
manufacturer is reached. This will help clear the cells of excess gas. Do not exceed the recommended
level.
13. Remove the battery from the vehicle, if need be; first remove the (black) earth terminal from the vehicle,
making sure that all the accessories in the vehicle are off, to prevent any arc from being caused.
