WATER CONNECTIONS
II.7.1
CONNECTION TO THE SYSTEM
IMPORTANT!
The layout of the water system and connection of
the system to the unit must be carried out in
conformity with local and national rules in force.
Failure to install the supplied water filter will void
the warranty.
IMPORTANT!
It is advisable to install shut-off valves that isolate
the unit from the rest of the system. Clean the filter
from time to time.
IMPORTANT!
The expansion tank on the machine is sufficient to
protect the unit. The installer is in charge of sizing
and installing the system's expansion tank.
○ The rate of the water that flows through the heat exchanger must not
drop below the value corresponding to a temperature differential of
8°C.
○ During long periods of inactivity, it is advisable to drain the water
from the system.
○ It is possible to avoid draining the water by adding ethylene glycol to
the water circuit (see Protecting the unit from frost).
It is recommended to connect the water pipes in a horizontal and not
vertical direction.
Hydraulic circuit content
The loading pressure of the expansion tank must be calculated
precisely in order to have an effective adjustment. For this purpose, it
must first be verified that the pre-load of the expansion tank does not
correspond to a volume of water that exceeds the limits indicated in the
figure below. The default water content for the 6-8kW unit settles at 44l,
whereas for sizes from 10 to 16kW it reaches 66l. If these values are
changed, the pre-load of the expansion tank must be adjusted to ensure
correct operation.
The formula for calculating the pre-load is as follows:
=
10
where H represents the difference in height between the installation site
of the unit and the highest point of the hydraulic system.
MV
Maximum total water volume (l)
PV
Expansion vessel preload (Bar)
If the volume of water corresponding to the pre-load value found
exceeds the limits in the figure, then the expansion tank does not fulfil
the installation requirements.
Notes: If the total volume of water has changed following installation,
then the pre-load must be re-calibrated to ensure safe operation. This
should not occur if the unit is installed at the highest point. Use nitrogen
to adjust the pre-load pressure, by contacting a certified installer.

Example: if a 16kW unit is found 7m below the highest point and has a
water volume of 58l, then the pre-load should not be re-calibrated.
Selecting the expansion tank
The volume of the expansion tank can be obtained from the following
formula:
With v=volume of the expansion tank, c=total water volume, p1=pre-
load of the expansion tank, p2=maximum pressure during system
operation and e=water expansion factor.
