ADJUSTMENTS

WARNING:
Before performing any adjustment, make sure the
tool is unplugged from the power supply. Failure to
heed this warning could result in serious personal
injury.
The compound miter saw has been adjusted at the fac-
tory for making very accurate cuts. However, some of the
components might have been jarred out of alignment dur-
ing shipping. Also, over a period of time, readjustment will
probably become necessary due to wear. After unpacking
the saw, check the following adjustments before you begin
using saw. Make any readjustments that are necessary and
periodically check the parts alignment to make sure that the
saw is cutting accurately.
PIVOT ADJUSTMENTS
NOTE: These adjustments were made at the factory and
normally do not require readjustment.
TRAVEL PIVOT ADJUSTMENT
 The saw arm should rise completely to the up position
by itself.
 If the saw arm does not raise by itself or if there is play
in the pivot joints, have saw repaired at your nearest
AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER.
TO ADJUST THE BEVEL PIVOT
 The compound miter saw should bevel easily by loosen-
ing the bevel lock knob and tilting the saw.
 If movement is tight or if there is play in the pivot, have
saw repaired at your nearest AUTHORIZED SERVICE
CENTER.
ADJUSTING THE BEVEL LOCK
See Figure 54 - 55.
When the saw arm is beveled to an "unindexed" bevel
position other than 0°, 15°, 22.5°, 33.9°, and 45°, tightening
the bevel lock knob should provide sufficient clamping force
to keep the saw arm from moving. If the saw arm moves
easily when the bevel lock knob is tightened, adjustments
are needed.
 Unplug the saw.
 Remove the two screws that secure the bevel lock dust
cover. Remove the cover.
 Loosen the bevel lock knob.
 Set the bevel angle at 0°.
 Using the 13 mm combination wrench, hold the nut
stationary while using the hex key to adjust the bevel
lock screw. Make adjustments of one-quarter turn or
less.
NOTE: Turning the bevel lock screw clockwise increases
the clamping force. Turning the bevel lock screw
counterclockwise decreases the clamping force.
 Using the hex key, hold the bevel lock screw stationary,
while using the combination wrench to adjust the nut
holding the flat washer so that it is close but not touching
the locking plate.
 After making the adjustment, check to see that the flat
washer and locking plate are not in contact with each
other.
 Replace the bevel lock dust cover and tighten screws
securely.
