Removing the Rear Cover
Removal of the rear cover provides access to the appliance's riser cards, network expansion cards, and
DIMM slots. The center fan cover also opens, providing access to the unit's six fans, but does not detach (see
"Installing Fans" on page 23).
!
Caution: Before removing the rear cover:
•
Observe all safety instructions (see "Safety Instructions" on page 11).
•
Unplug the appliance's power cords from the AC power source, then unplug them from the
appliance's power supply units.
•
Put on an electrostatic discharge (ESD) strap.
To remove the rear cover:
1 If the appliance is rack-mounted, extend the appliance out the rear of the rack to its locked position. If
there isn't enough room behind the rack, remove the appliance from the front of the rack. For more
information, see "Extending and Removing the Appliance From the Rack" on page 30.
2 Power down the appliance, unplug the appliance's power cords, and put on an ESD strap.
3 Unscrew the rear cover's blue thumb screw.
4 Slide the cover back and then up.
Note: For information on servicing the S550, including installation of network interface cards and
