1.
If the two PLIDCO Flange+Repair Ring halves were shipped as an assembled unit it would have
been shipped with spacers between the two halves to prevent damage to the longitudinal seals
and ends of the circumferential seals. Typically, small diameter nuts are used for the spacers.
The spacers must be removed and discarded before installing the PLIDCO Flange+Repair Ring.
Failure to remove the spacers will prevent proper compression of the seals.
2.
Assemble the PLIDCO Flange+Repair Ring around the flanges making sure the PLIDCO
Flange+Repair Ring is centered over the gap between the flanges and the yellow painted ends
are matched. It is recommended to orient the shell of the PLIDCO Flange+Repair Ring directly
over the area of the flange set that has the most leakage. Figure 3 demonstrates how the
PLIDCO Flange+Repair Ring should fit around the flanges as well as provide names and locations
for the different parts that make up the fitting.
3.
Hand tighten the studs and nuts.
4.
Determine what size stud bolts are being used by measuring the diameter of the threaded end of
the bolt (measured in inches). This measurement will be used to determine the torque value.
5.
Torque all stud bolts and nuts uniformly as indicated by the PLIDCO Torque Chart (shown on last
page). Torque the bolts on either side of the PLIDCO Flange+Repair Ring in a "back and forth"
pattern with the correct torque value until the stud bolts and nuts are unable to continue turning.
The torque values shown apply up to and including 700°F (371°C). For higher temperatures,
contact PLIDCO for recommended torque values.
6.
The best results are obtained by maintaining an equal gap between the side bars while tightening
the bolts. Ensure there is full nut engagement by having a minimum of 1/4 inch (6 mm or 1-2
threads) of stud bolt extending beyond the nut.
7.
To complete installation, the stud bolts should be rechecked at the recommended torque. The
side bars are gapped approximately 1/8 inch to 3/16 inch (3 to 5 mm) or less when the PLIDCO
Flange+Repair Ring is fully tightened.
8.
Torque striping should be applied from the nuts to the stud bolts of the PLIDCO Flange+Repair
Ring so any loosening of the bolts can be visually seen during an inspection.
