INDICATIONS

CONTRAINDICATIONS
• Not for use over sutures, open wounds, and
infected areas
PRECAUTIONS
• This splint is to be fitted initially by a
healthcare professional who is familiar with
the purpose for which it is prescribed. The
healthcare professional is responsible for
providing wearing instructions and
precautions to other healthcare
practitioners, care providers involved in the
patient's care, and the patient.
• If unusual swelling, skin discoloration or
discomfort occurs, use should be
discontinued and a healthcare professional
consulted.
• Be careful that the splint is not so tight that
circulation is impaired.
• After heating splinting material, always
check its temperature before applying it to
the patient.
CARE AND CLEANING
Fabric splint
• Remove thermoplastic piece and gel pad.
Fasten closures. Hand wash fabric in
lukewarm water and mild soap. Rinse
thoroughly. Do not wring. Wrap in towel to

remove excess moisture. Dry at room
temperature. Be sure the splint is completely
dry before reapplying it.
Thermoplastic shell and gel pad
• Without removing gel pad from plastic shell,
hand wash with soap and warm (not hot)
water. Rinse thoroughly. Press gently to
remove excess water and dry at room
temperature. Be sure it is completely dry
before reapplying splint.
APPLICATION
1. If desired, heat the thermoplastic shell, which
is made from

" (1.6mm) Polyform Light

splinting material, in water heated to 150° to
160°F (65–70°C) for one minute or until
pliable. Without stretching shell, dry it and
mold it to the palm (A).
2. Allow to cool completely.
3. Attach gel pad to the side of the plastic shell
that will lie against the skin.
4. Attach self-adhesive hook piece on the side
of the plastic shell that will lie against the
fabric splint.
5. Place gel insert onto splint as shown in B.
6. Remove clear plastic sheet from surface of
gel pad.

7. Place splint on a flat surface and position
the hand so the two straps are positioned
laterally and the rounded end is positioned
medially (C).
8. Pull the rounded end over the back of the
hand and fasten the two hook straps (D).
9. Check position of gel insert.
