Incremental Wrist Hinge:
A352-100 and A352-101
A
A pattern for forearm and hand splint bases
that can be used with the Rolyan
Incremental Wrist Hinge is included.
INDICATIONS
• To statically position wrist or block out
undesired range of motion
CONTRAINDICATIONS
• Not in the presence of unstable wrist fractures
• Not in the presence of fixed bony
contractures
• Not for moderate to severe flexor tone
PRECAUTIONS
• This product is to be fitted initially by a
healthcare professional who is familiar with
the purpose for which it is prescribed. The
healthcare professional is responsible for
providing wearing instructions and
precautions to other healthcare
practitioners, care providers involved in the
patient's care, and the patient.
• If unusual swelling, skin discoloration or
discomfort occurs, use should be
discontinued and a healthcare professional
consulted.
• Be careful that the straps are not so tight
that they interfere with circulation.
• After heating splinting material, always
check its temperature before applying it to
the patient.
CARE AND CLEANING
Hinge can be cleaned with a damp cloth.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Splint components are referred to by the
following names:
2-part screw
slotted-head
section
post section
wrist hinge
adjustment screw
contoured leg
Forming splint bases
1. Fabricate two-part splint, which must consist
of the following:
• forearm base that extends proximal to ulnar
styloid on dorsal surface of forearm
B
• hand base (circumferential for most
applications)
Axis of hinge must be aligned just distal to
peak of radial styloid, and both splint portions
must be large enough and extend far enough
radially to accommodate hinge (A).
The Rolyan Tenodesis Flexor Tendon Repair
Pre-Cut Splint Blank is recommended for use
following repair of a flexor tendon injury.
Attaching wrist hinge to splint bases
2. Apply splint bases.
3. With contoured leg of hinge distal, position
hinge along radial border in alignment with
anatomical axis of wrist (just distal to peak of
radial styloid).
4. Trace slots in legs of hinge onto both splint
bases.
5. Remove from patient and use a
punch to make four holes within marked
areas, two in hand base and two in forearm
base (B). The holes must be at least
(1.3 cm) apart to accommodate the 2-part
screws without overlapping.
6. Insert post sections of 2-part screws, with flat
surface inside splint, into holes. Press until
heads are flush with splint.
7. Place wrist hinge onto splint over post
sections. From outside of hinge, screw
slotted-head sections through slots in legs of
hinge and into post sections (C). Tighten with
screwdriver. Slip-resistant material can be
used to help hold post sections while
tightening.
Joining ulnar connecting pieces
8. Mark position for ulnar hole in hand base.
(See splint pattern on page 2 for proper hole
position.) Using a
3
" drill or punch, make
1 6
hole.
9. If base is padded, cut away padding around
hole.
10. With splint on patient, position ulnar
connecting piece of hand base over ulnar
connecting piece of forearm base. Be sure
that connecting pieces line up with axis of
wrist.
11. Mark connecting piece of forearm base
through hole in hand base. Make sure that
patient will be able to flex and extend wrist
when connecting pieces are attached at this
point.
12. Remove splint and use drill or punch to make
two holes that overlap slightly, forming a
figure 8.
13. Put post section of 2-part screw through
forearm base, with flat head inside splint.

14. Place hole in hand base over post section in

connecting piece of forearm base. Put
slotted -head screw into post section and

tighten with screwdriver.

Adjusting range of motion
Note that degrees marked on hinge
represent degree at which hinge is set, not
necessarily degree at which wrist is
positioned.
15. For a static hinge
• Line up arrow on hinge with desired amount
of flexion or extension. Place adjustment
screw through that hole, making sure that it
goes through window in back of hinge.
• As the patient gains flexion or extension,
simply loosen adjustment screw and
front view
back view
progress to next degree level.
16. For free-moving hinge with end-range blocking
• Line up arrow on hinge with greatest
amount of extension desired. Place
adjustment screw in hole that is marked 20º
greater than hole to which arrow points (D).
For example, if hinge must stop at 30º of
extension, point arrow at 30°, and place
adjustment screw at 50°.
