Resistance measurement
Connect the test leads to the jacks marked "INPUT" and "COM", set the range
switch to the resistance measurement position marked with the Ω symbol. Select
the resistance measurement with the SELECT key, the symbol "Ω" will appear.
Touch the probes to the terminals of the measured element and read the meas-
urement result. In order to obtain more accurate measurement results, change
the measuring range if necessary. It is absolutely forbidden to measure the
resistance of elements through which electric current is fl owing. For meas-
urements greater than 1 MΩ, the measurement may take a few seconds before
the readout becomes stable, which is the normal response for high resistance
measurements.
Before touching the probes to the terminals of the workpiece, an overload sym-
bol is shown on the display.
Capacitance measurement
Connect the test leads to the jacks marked INPUT and COM, set the range
switch to the capacitance measurement position. Make sure that the capacitor
has been discharged before the measurement. Never measure the capaci-
tance of a charged capacitor as this can damage the meter and cause elec-
tric shock. When measuring high-capacitance capacitors, the measurement
may take about 30 seconds before the result becomes stable.
When measuring small capacitances, to obtain a more accurate result, subtract
the capacitance of the meter and the test leads. When measuring capacitances
greater than or equal to 20 mF, the meter will show the symbol "OL".
Transistor test
Connect an adapter for small electronic components to the INPUT and COM
jacks. Set the measuring range switch to the position marked with the "hFE"
symbol (transistor gain factor measurement). Depending on the type of transistor
you connect to the socket marked with "PNP" or "NPN", taking care to place the
transistor outputs in holes marked with the letters E – emitter, B – base, and C
– collector. If the transistor is working and the connection is correct, the result of
the gain measurement will be shown on the display. It is absolutely forbidden
to test transistors through which electric current is fl owing.
Diode test
Connect the test leads to the jacks marked "INPUT" and "COM" and set the knob
to the diode symbol. The probes are now touched to the diode terminals: once in
the forward and then in the reverse direction. If the diode is working, it will show a
voltage drop in its forward direction expressed in mV. If connected in the reverse
direction, the display will show the overload symbol. Working diodes are char-
acterized by a low resistance in the forward direction and a high resistance in
the reverse direction. It is absolutely forbidden to test diodes through which
electric current is fl owing.
Conduction test
Connect the test leads to the jacks marked "INPUT" and "COM". Set the selector
to the buzzer symbol. If themeter is used to measure conduction, the built-in
buzzer will sound whenever the measured resistance drops below 50 Ω. The
buzzer can also be heard in the range from 50 Ω to 100 Ω. It is absolutely
forbidden to test conductivity in circuits through which electric current
is fl owing.
Transistor test
Set the measuring range switch to the position marked with the "hFE" symbol
(transistor gain factor measurement). Depending on the type of transistor you
have, choose either the PNP or the NPN socket, taking care to insert the transis-
tor's terminals in holes marked with the letters E – emitter, B – base, C – collec-
tor. If the transistor is working and the connection is correct, the result of the gain
measurement will be shown on the display. It is absolutely forbidden to test
transistors through which electric current is fl owing.
Temperature measurement
Connect the ends of the thermocouple wires to the INPUT and COM jacks. Set
the meter selector to

C /

F position. Apply the thermocouple to the object to be
measured. The thermocouple supplied with the product permits measurement
of only up to 230
C. In order to measure higher temperatures, a suitable ther-

mocouple for must be purchased. Use type K thermocouples. With the "Select"
button you can select either the
Frequency measurement
Connect the test leads to the jacks marked "INPUT" and "COM". Select the
frequency measurement option with the FUNC button. The display will show
the "Hz" symbol. Read the measurement result on the display. In the case of
frequency measurement, the voltage of the measured signal should be within
the range specifi ed in the table with technical data. If the signal is measured
outside the specifi ed range, the accuracy of the measurement is outside the
range specifi ed in the table.

Measurement of the duty cycle
Connect the test leads to the jacks marked "INPUT" and "COM". Put the selector
to the HZ/DUTY position. Select the measurement of the duty cycle by press-
ing the HZ/DUTY button and the display will show the "%" symbol. Read the
measurement result on the display. The measured signal voltage and frequency
should be within the ranges given in the table with technical data. If the meas-
ured signal parameters exceed the specifi ed range, the accuracy will exceed the
range given in the table.

Current measurement using an optional YT-73090 measuring clamp (sold sep-
arately)
The measuring clamp permits the measurement of AC current fl owing in a single
wire using an inductive method.
The test leads should be connected to the INPUT and COM jacks. Set the me-
ter selector to indicate the symbol of the measuring clamp. The measurement
should be carried out in accordance with the instructions included with the YT-
73090 measuring clamp.

MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE

Wipe the meter with a soft cloth. Larger amounts of dirt should be removed with
a slightly damp cloth. Do not immerse the product in water or any other liquid.
Do not use solvents, corrosive or abrasive agents for cleaning. Care should be
taken to keep the contacts of the meter and the test leads clean. Clean the con-
tacts of the test leads with a cloth slightly soaked in isopropyl alcohol. In order to
clean the contacts of the meter, turn off the meter and remove the battery. Turn
the meter over and shake it gently so that larger pieces of dirt fall out of the meter
connectors. Lightly soak a cotton stick with isopropyl alcohol and clean each
contact. Wait until the alcohol evaporates, then install the battery. The meter
should be stored in a dry room in the supplied unit packaging.
