Function

The sensor wirelessly transmits distance data via
LoRaWAN to a nearby gateway. This data is usually then
forwarded over a network to a LoRaWAN network server,
where it is processed further. When the sensor is used in
conjunction with the Smart Reordering System, the data is
forwarded to the Smart Reordering application where it is
used for automatic fill level monitoring.

Function of Infrared Time-of-Flight Sensor

The Balluff SRS sensor determines the fill level of goods
with an integrated infrared sensor. The infrared sensor
emits light with a wavelength of 940 nm that is not visible
to humans.
The operating principle of the sensor used is an infrared
time-of-flight sensor. The time-of-flight (ToF) principle is a
method of measuring distance between a sensor and an
object based on the time difference between the emission
of a signal and its return to the sensor after being reflected
by an object.

The sensor module has the following special features:
– Programmable field of view (FoV): By default, the
sensor has a field of view of 16 × 16 pixels. The
sensor's field of view (FoV) can be programmed and
thus adapted to the respective application (for details,
see the data sheet or the description in the Smart
Reordering System application).
– The ToF sensor has a viewing range of 40 to 4000 mm
and an exit angle of 27°. Depending on the distance to
the respective object, this results in a corresponding
area (ToF window) that can be monitored (see Fig. 4-2).
