b) Close the scoop cut-out valve before removing the filter cover (see Fig. 1).
Remove the filter element from the housing and wash the element with clean
water. Reinstall the filter element, lubricate the ring seal and the thread using
e.g. silicon oil or PTFE spray (see Fig. 4) and reinstall the filter cover.
CAUTION! Always remove/retighten the cover finger-tight. Do not
use any tools.

With the filter element clean and reinstalled, check that the filter cover-to-
housing connection is sealed tight.
NOTE! A poor seal of the closed filter cover will cause the engine's
cooling sea water pump to entrain air, resulting in overheating of the
engine.
d) Protect the filter against damage by draining water from the system or
replacing the water with an anti-freeze solution for winter. Remove the piping
to empty the strainer. The housing does not feature a drain cock. Be careful
not to spill anti-freeze overboard when priming the system. Anti-freeze
formulas are toxic.
