Before the first use as a Griddle Bowl
Ex works Griddle and Fire Bowl is coated with food-safe paraffin oil in order to prevent corrosion.
However, you must season your griddle bowl first before using it.
1. Add some high-temperature (e.g. clarified butter or coconut oil) on your Griddle and Fire Bowel to
cover its surface. Spread the grease over the whole surface, e.g. with a brush.
2. When the Griddle and Fire Bowl is hot, add 1-2 tbsp. of fine salt.
3. After a while, the surface of your Griddle and Fire Bowl changes colour and becomes dark in places
or entirely and the characteristic patina develops.
4. Empty the bowl and let it cool down. Wash the Griddle and Fire Bowl with hot water and carefully
remove the possible cooking remains. Then dry thoroughly and apply some grease.
5. The Petromax Griddle and Fire Bowl is now ready for use. After each use simply wash the griddle
bowl with hot water or wipe it with kitchen paper. As a protection against corrosion there should
always be a thin layer of grease. The seasoning process can be repeated as often as desired.
