5.4 STORING FROZEN FOOD

Store pre-packed commercially available frozen food according to the manufacturer's
instruction on the packaging. Remember to:
■ Put the packets in the freezer as soon as possible after purchase.
■ Do not exceed the "Use By" / "Best Before" dates on the packaging.
WARNING! Do not touch frozen food or frozen surfaces in the freezer
compartment if your hands are damp or wet, as this could cause skin abrasions
or frost/freezer burns.

5.5 FREEZING FRESH FOOD

■ Place fresh food near the side walls for faster freezing and away from already
frozen food, if possible.
■ Never exceed the maximum capacity of the freezer. Do not freeze too large a
quantity at a time.
■ The quality of the food is best preserved when it is frozen right through the centre
as quickly as possible.
■ Take special care not to mix already frozen food with fresh food.

5.6 USEFUL TIPS

To help you make the most out of your freezer and frozen foods, follow these useful
frozen food and energy saving tips.
Tips for Frozen Food
■ Only freeze top quality, fresh and thoroughly cleaned foods.
■ Store food in small portions for quick and thorough defrosting and reduce waste.
■ Wrap food in aluminium foil or plastic ensuring it is airtight.
■ Transfer purchased frozen goods to your freezer as quickly as possible.
■ Do not allow fresh, unfrozen food to touch frozen food as this may cause a
temperature rise in the latter.
■ Store raw meat and fish in airtight plastic or suitable containers, so that they do
not come into contact with or drip onto other foods.
■ Do not exceed the storage period indicated by the food manufacturer.
■ Once defrosted, food deteriorates rapidly and should not be refrozen.
■ Avoid opening the freezer door frequently or leaving it open for longer than
necessary. This will increase the temperature of the freezer compartment
significantly.
■ Do not put liquid-filled bottles or sealed cans containing carbonated/fizzy liquids
into the freezer as they can burst.
CAUTION! Do not store glass bottles/containers in the freezer as they may
break and cause injury.
■ Clean surfaces that come into contact with food regularly (→ CLEANING AND
CARE).
■ Defrost and clean the drainage system regularly (→ DEFROSTING THE FREEZER).
