patient's individual needs. If not, readjust the Service Screw again until
the correct setting has been found.
Note: Always adjust the Service Screw (B) carefully. Note that you can
adjust it against the slight resistance of the thread locker.
Caution: flexion and extension must be possible at all settings.
Restoring the basic setting
If necessary, the basic setting of the device can be reset as follows:
Step 1: Carefully turn the Load Regulating Screw (4A) to the right until
a slight resistance is felt.
Step 2: Then turn the Load Regulating Screw three turns back to the left
to restore the basic setting.
Swing Control (Fig. 5)
The pneumatic system is supplied in its basic setting.
In the basic setting, the Flexion and Extension Valves are opened by 2 full
turns. The device can be adjusted to the individual gait.
The Flexion and Extension Valves are labeled in English on the device:
• "Flexion": marks the Flexion valve,
• "Extension": marks the Extension valve.
Adjusting the Flexion and Extension Valves:
The following valves can be adjusted:
• The Flexion Valve: Affects swing flexion resistance.
• The Extension Valve: Affects swing extension resistance.
Start with adjusting the flexion with the patient walking slowly and at
faster walking speeds.
For each adjustment, turn the valve in small increments of about a ¼ of
a turn. Always check the result right after each adjustment step.
Possible observations and actions to take are outlined in the following:
• If the patient is walking fast and you observe excessive heel rise,
increase the swing flexion resistance by turning the Flexion Valve to
the right until the heel rise is normalized.Afterwards, adjust the
extension to harmonize the gait.
• Increase the swing extension resistance by turning the Extension
Valve to the right until terminal impact at full extension is reduced.
Patient should feel a slight bump at full extension.
• Fine tune the Flexion and Extension Valves until a smooth and secure
gait pattern is achieved for slow and fast walking speeds.
Caution: The valves should never be fully closed. Over tightening valves
or flexing knee with all valves completely closed may damage valves.
Note: Flexion and extension must be possible at all settings.
Note: It may be necessary to readjust the brake again after setting the
swing phase.
