Optical system
Headlamp with a powerful LED.
Consists of a focused LED for long-range vision and a wide angle lens.
It has a sliding diffuser lens for proximity lighting.
Switching on & off, brightness selection
The MYO XP provides 3 power levels:
Level 1. Maximum: maximum power.
Level 2. Optimum: ideal balance between power and burn time.
Level 3. Economy: low power/maximum burn time.
There is also a flashing mode.
Use the on/off switch to choose the right amount and type of light for
your needs.
- One click to turn the light on at the Maximum power level.
- One click to turn it off.
- 2 rapid clicks to select the Optimum level,
- 3 rapid clicks for the Economic level,
- 4 rapid clicks for the flashing mode.
If the button is not pushed quickly enough, the lamp will switch off.
BOOST
The BOOST mode produces about 50 % more light than the Maximum
level.
Press and hold the BOOST button down to use the BOOST mode.
BOOST may be activated anytime: when the headlamp is off, in strobe
mode or from any of the three lighting levels. If used too frequently,
this mode can quickly drain the batteries.
Automatic power limiter
To avoid overheating the LED, the BOOST lighting level drops to
Maximum after 20 seconds, even if the button is held down.
If BOOST is used repeatedly, the electronic system will prevent further
use of the BOOST mode until the LED cools down.
In high-temperature conditions, the electronics will also limit the
current in the LED if it gets too hot. When this happens, the light will
be noticeably dimmer, whatever lighting level is on.
Battery charge indicator
The indicator starts working 5 seconds after the lamp has been turned
on.
It does not work in BOOST mode.
When the batteries are fresh, the indicator flashes green. When they
are used (about 70 % discharged), it turns orange, and then red when
they need to be replaced (about 90 % discharged).
As an additional alert, the headlamp's beam will flash momentarily
when the indicator changes color.
The indicator gives only a general idea of remaining battery life.
Its accuracy varies with the type of batteries used and with the
temperature.
Transport
Take care to tilt the head-piece back against its mounting plate to cover
the two switches.
Maintenance
Do not attempt to dismantle the lamp. LEDs have a very long lifetime
and do not require service. Dismantling the lamp voids the guarantee.
Water in the lamp can cause a malfunction. After use in a humid
environment, remove the batteries and dry out.
Cleaning
Do not wash your lamp under running water. Wipe off dirt with a damp
sponge. Take care to prevent water from entering the lamp through the
ventilation hole under the head-piece.
To clean the elastics, remove them from the lamp and wash in soapy
water.
In case of malfunction
If the lamp flickers, see the section entitled "Battery charge indicator".
If the BOOST does not work or if the lamp dims suddenly, see
«Automatic power limitation».
Verify that the batteries are good, and that they are properly installed
with respect to their polarity. Follow the order indicated on the battery
case. Inspect the contacts for corrosion. If corroded, gently scrape the
contacts clean without bending them. If your lamp still does not work,
contact PETZL.
Batteries
Use alkaline batteries or NiMH rechargeable batteries.
Do not use the lamp with Lithium batteries. Due to recent advances
in their performance characteristics (especially their higher output
during discharge), they can cause the lamp to overheat and possibly
damage the LED.
WARNING DANGER, risk of explosion and burns.
- The batteries must be inserted correctly with respect to polarity by
following the diagram on the battery case.
If one battery is reversed (two + poles or two - poles in contact with
each other), a chemical reaction is produced in minutes that releases
explosive gasses and extremely corrosive liquid.
Indicator: a weak level of light with new batteries indicates that the
polarity of one or more batteries is reversed.
In case of doubt, turn off the lamp immediately and verify the polarity.
Protect your eyes in case leakage has already occurred. Cover the
battery case with a rag before opening it to avoid contact with any
discharge.
In case of contact with liquid from the batteries, rinse affected area
immediately with clear water and get immediate medical attention.
- Do not mix brands of batteries.
- Do not mix new and used batteries.
- Remove the batteries from the lamp for prolonged storage.
- Do not recharge non-rechargeable batteries.
- Do not short-circuit the batteries as this can cause burns.
- Do not attempt to open or dismantle batteries.
- Do not put used batteries in a fire.
- Keep batteries out of reach of children.
PRECAUTIONS to avoid damaging your lamp (oxidation of
contacts...) and to limit the risk of leaky batteries:
- do not allow the batteries to become heavily discharged,
- keep water out of the battery case.
