Adjusting tool speed
WARNING: NEVER adjust the tool speed while the tool is running. This may cause permanent
damage to the tool.
• The speed of the tool can be varied between 0-3000rpm
• To adjust the tool speed, rotate the Variable Speed Control Dial (8) clockwise to increase the
speed and anticlockwise to decrease the speed (Fig. X)
Note: When the tool speed is set to low speed, the ON/OFF Trigger Switch Switch (9) will not fully
depress. This is normal and not a fault with the tool.
Switching ON & OFF
1. To switch the drill ON, squeeze the ON/OFF Trigger Switch (9) (Fig. XI)
2. To stop the drill, release the ON/OFF Trigger Switch
Note: This tool features a lock ON mechanism for improved control while operating.
To activate the lock ON feature:
1. Squeeze and hold the ON/OFF Trigger Switch and press the Lock ON Button (7) (Fig. XII)
2. Release the ON/OFF Trigger Switch
3. Release the Lock ON Button
• When the ON/OFF Trigger Switch is now released the tool will remain ON
• To deactivate the lock ON mechanism, squeeze then release the ON/OFF Trigger Switch
Using the depth gauge
The Depth Gauge (13) can be used to assist in the drilling of holes to specific depths
1. Install the Depth Gauge to the required drilling depth (see 'Installing & setting the depth gauge')
2. Drill the hole until the Depth Gauge comes into contact with the workpiece (Fig. XIII)
• If the Gauge has been set correctly the hole will now be the required depth
Drilling concrete
• Set the drill to hammer drill mode (see 'Hammer drill mode selection')
• Install a suitable masonry drill bit (not supplied) into the Chuck (1) (see 'Installing/removing drill
bits & accessories')
• Tungsten carbide drill bits should be used for masonry and concrete drilling
IMPORTANT: Do not apply excessive pressure while drilling as this will damage the motor and
drill bit.
Note: The drilled hole may fill with debris while drilling. To clear the debris, remove the drill bit from
the hole before continuing.
Drilling wood & metal
• Set the drill to rotary drill mode (see 'Rotary drill mode selection')
• Install a suitable wood or metal drill bit (not supplied) in the Chuck (1) (see 'Installing/removing
drill bits & accessories')
IMPORTANT: Ensure that the drill bit being used is suitable for the workpiece. Always use HSS
drill bits for steel.
Note: The drilled hole may fill with debris while drilling. To clear the debris, remove the drill bit from
the hole before continuing.
Drilling tiles
• Set the drill to rotary drill mode (see 'Rotary drill mode selection')
• Install a suitable tile drill bit (not supplied) in the Chuck (1) (see 'Installing/removing drill bits &
accessories')
Drilling pilot holes
• When a large hole in a tough material (i.e. steel) is required, it is recommended a small pilot
hole be drilled first before using a larger drill bit
Cooling the motor
WARNING: Tool may become hot with use.
• If the tool becomes hot, set the speed to maximum and run the tool with no load for 2-3 minutes
to cool the motor

Maintenance
WARNING: ALWAYS disconnect from the power supply before carrying out any inspection,
maintenance or cleaning.
General inspection
• Regularly check that all the fixing screws are tight
• Prior to each use, inspect the supply cord of the tool for damage or wear
• Repairs should be carried out by an authorised Silverline service centre. This advice also applies
to extension cords used with this tool
Cleaning
• Keep your tool clean at all times. Dirt and dust will cause internal parts to wear quickly, and
shorten the tools service life. Clean the body of your tool with a soft brush, or dry cloth. If
available, use clean, dry, compressed air to blow through the ventilation holes
• Clean the tool casing with a soft damp cloth using a mild detergent. Do not use alcohol, petrol or
strong cleaning agents
• Never use caustic agents to clean plastic parts
Lubrication
• Slightly lubricate all moving parts at regular intervals with a suitable spray lubricant
Brushes
• Over time the carbon brushes inside the motor may become worn
• Excessively worn brushes may cause loss of power, intermittent failure, or visible sparking
• If you suspect that the brushes may be worn, have them replaced at an authorised Silverline
service centre
Storage
• Store this tool carefully in a secure, dry place out of the reach of children
