hot surfaces. Always operate the unit on a level, stable, clean, fireproof and dry
surface and out of the reach of children and persons of impaired mental, sensory
and intellectual functions. Place the unit in such a way that the mains plug can be
reached at any time. Ensure that the power supply to the unit corresponds to that
specified on the identification plate!
3.3.
Working with the unit
Place the unit at a distance of approximately 0.6 m from the drain. If this is not
possible, guide the spiral through the metal guide tube.
Set the foot switch so that it is easily accessible. The machine is designed to be
operated by one person. Make sure that you can quickly remove your foot
from the switch in an emergency.
Make sure the control knob is in the OFF position.
Select the appropriate cutting tool.
Remove the spiral from the drum/cage and insert it into the drain as far as it
will go.
Set the control knob to the FOR position.
Keeping both hands (in leather gloves) on the spiral, press down the foot
switch to start the machine.
Insert the spiral into the drain with even pressure and adjust the feed rate to
the encountered resistance. Do not press on the spiral with excessive force -
the spiral may become damaged.
Do not leave too much slack in the spiral as this will cause excessive oscillation.
If the spiral begins to bend or twist too much, release pressure on the foot
switch and turn the drum in the opposite direction to reduce cable twist. Push
the excess spiral back into the drum and continue working.
If there are problems with tight turns, try shifting the machine into reverse
while applying constant pressure to the spiral. Do not run the engine in reverse
for more than a few seconds as this may cause the spiral to become tangled or
bent.
When the spiral reaches the blocked area, allow it to slowly advance into the
blocked area. This slow forward movement will reduce pressure on the cable
while performing a more thorough cleaning. The back and forth activity often
works best.
Tip: It is often helpful to use a small stream of water flowing in the line during
and after machine operation to flush out clippings.
Make sure that the cutting tool is not blocked during operation. This can cause
the spiral to bend and break. When the spiral begins to twist in your hands,
stop the machine and pull the spiral back. This will free the cutting tool from
the obstruction. Then let the spiral move slowly forward until it stops.
