2 - SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
2.1.2 General precautions
WARNING!
Use an appropriate personal protective equipment for your specific task. Neckties, rings, watches, necklaces, belts
and loose or ragged clothing create a hazard when operating tools. Employees with long hair must tie their hair so it
will not be caught in any rotating parts. Wear slip-resistant shoes appropriate for your job.
Operate the tool only for the allowable times indicated in paragraph 4.2 "Operation".
Never allow anyone to operate, perform maintenance or repair the tool while under the influence of alcohol, narcotics or
certain prescription drugs that make you drowsy or when excessively tired or under stress. Focus is very important.
Do not let bystanders and others go within a 10 meter radius of the tool while it is being used.
Give or lend the tool only to personnel specially trained by authorized people.
Keep children and animals away from the tool.
Never tie down, block out or otherwise make inoperative any type of safety device, attachment, method or guard.
As the machine operator you are responsible for the safety of the people or their property in your area.
Do not use the tool when you are off balance.
Start the tool only in open-air well-ventilated areas.
Never perform maintenance while the motor (3) is running.
Use the tool only for its intended purpose given in paragraph 3.2. Any other use is to be considered erroneous and
inappropriate any may result in personal injury.
Fill the tank only when a good distance away from heat sources.
Never smoke while refueling.
Do not take the cap (15) off the tank while the motor (3) is running.
Be careful when re-fueling. The danger of fire is real and serious! Be careful not to spill fuel on the ground or motor
(3). If fuel flows out while refueling, move the tool to another place before attempting to start it.
Do not use fuel to clean.
Never check the spark plug near the cylinder hole.
Never work with a damaged muffler (29).
Always keep the handgrips (5) and (17) clean of oil and fuel and dry.
Store the tool in a dry area, away from heat sources and raised off the ground.
Inspect the tool on a daily basis to assure all the devices, whether safety and others, are operative.
Never perform any operations or repairs that are not considered routine maintenance jobs. Contact authorized serv-
ice centers.
2.2 Tool operating precautions
Always hold the tool with both hands on the handle and make sure you are in a steady and safe work position.
Use the tool only for its intended purpose given in paragraph 3.2. Any other use is to be considered erroneous and inappropri-
ate and may result in personal injury.
WARNING!
Accelerating on the same spot on the branch for a long time does not favor detachment of the fruits; change the position
of the hook and repeat shaking.
2.3 Maintenance
WARNING!
Before attempting to perform any maintenance jobs or make mechanical adjustments to the tool, put on safety shoes,
gloves and safety goggles or glasses.
Shut off the motor before attempting to perform any maintenance or mechanical adjustments.
Routine maintenance and repairs can be carried out only by physically and mentally fit operators.
Extraordinary maintenance or repairs must be done by a qualified mechanic.
Unauthorized persons must keep a safe distance away when maintenance or repairs are being performed.
Safety devices or guards can be de-energized only for the purpose of extraordinary maintenance solely by a mechanic who
will safeguard the well-being of operators and prevent damage to the tool as well as replace the devices and guards as soon
as repairs or servicing on the tool has been completed.
All maintenance operations not specifically outlined in this manual are to be performed at authorized service centers.
Once repairs or servicing on a tool has been completed, the tool can be restarted only after receiving authorization from a
mechanic who must assure:
- no one is working on the tool;
- the jobs have actually been completed;
- the tool works efficiently;
- the safety systems are operative.
