USER GUIDE THE MACCHIATO
The Macchiato
The Macchiato is a gain riding compressor of fixed ratio and
should be used between the instrument and amplifier, the
best position for this is immediately after the instrument.
The nominal input signal level is set for 100mV suitable for
passive instruments.
The unit contains a Sub sonic filter to remove unwanted low
frequency noise, this is set for a 24db roll off starting at 28,4
Hz. This filter preconditions the signal prior to the compres-
sor and prevents unwanted trembles in the output from the
compressor that would appear as variations in volume.
The sub sonic filter may also be switched in to be active
on the bypass signal, this helps protect speakers from over
excursion when playing at volume, especially useful when
the cabinets are ported and such low frequencies would fall
outside the tuning range of the port.
USER GUIDE
Bass , middle and treble controls are provided to tailor the
compressed sound to taste. The unit also contains a Low
pass filter with a gentle slope of 6db /octave , set to start a
roll off at 4k5 the filter allows for all the harmonics pres-
ent in the bass instrument but helps to minimise HF noise
picked up by the instrument.
The Macchiato may also be used as a signal conditioner for
quiet practice as it will prevent loud twangs etc enabling
you to maintain a more consistent level in environments
where excessive noise might be a problem. It can be espe-
cially useful when practicing with a headphone amplifier by
maintaining a consistent level thereby reducing the strain
on the ears.
