5.1 Setting the time
Before setting the time, make sure that the automatic night shut-off, if applicable, is turned off and
the respective selector lever is not in the position «NIGHT OFF» (see section 10).
To set the time, move the minute hand counterclockwise (backwards) until hour and minute hand
are at the correct time.
When moving the minute hand counterclockwise as described, the clock will not chime.
Never move the hour hand when setting the time. The hour hand will move automatically.
If after setting the clock on time, it does not chime properly, this is not a defect. Let the clock
operate 1 to 2 hours. The movement has a self correcting feature which synchronizes the chimes
with the time. The synchronization can be speeded up by moving the minute hand back 2 more
hours and then turning it clockwise as described below.
Should you elect to move the

minute hand clockwise
(forward) when setting the time, it is
recommended that you let the clock
complete each strike cycle (quarter,
half, three quarter and full hour
depending on model). The strike
release will only function if
the minute hand is moved slowly past the respective
release points.
Switching to day light savings time or back to regular time is done by
moving the minute hand forward or backward one hour.
5.2 Setting the moon phase:
The moon dial corresponds with the lunar month (29'/2days) and not the calendar month. As long as
the clock is in permanent operation the dial will follow the moon automatically. If the clock stops
you have to reset the moon dial.
To set the moon dial rotate the moon disc (in the upper part of the dial) clockwise (right) until the
moon face is below the 15 on the dial.
Check with your calendar for the date of the last full moon.
Using a soft cloth or gloves rotate the moon disc to the right (clockwise).
As you rotate the disc you will hear a clicking sound. One click represents a 24 hour day of the lunar
month. Example: If the moon is six days after the full moon you have to move 6 clicks.
CAUTION: If you attempt to set the moon and it does not move easily the gears are in progress of
making a moon change. Wait about 6-8 hours before you set the moon.
The history of the moving moon dial:
One of the most frequently asked questions is the history and meaning of the moving moon. In the
past the moving moon was very important. In the 17 th century most of the clocks had moving
moon. The people could plan ahead for when the moon was full and travel at night was not so
hazardous.
In today's world the moving moon is more or less a decorative accessory.
However many belief that the moon still effects their lives:
Example: One say: Sweep your house in the dark of the moon and you will have neither moths nor
spiders. Trees planted at Full M oon will grow better.
