Installation
Obey the safety statements mentioned in 1 Safety-related
information!
4.1
Mechanical installation
The instrument can be mounted for measuring ultrasound in
ambient air.
1. Use M6 (1/4'') bolts with hex socket caps to mount the
enclosure to one of the following options.
Option
Mounting on a flat surface
Mounting on a pole
Mechanical installation impacts
Vibrations might have influence on the ultrasonic sensor
measurements. Machinery and conduits might cause
vibrations in the ultrasonic frequency range.
Conduits protect cable routing and are screwed into the
enclosure. Conduits might transmit high-frequency vibrations
into the transmitter enclosure.
To prevent vibrations, order and use the following spare parts.
● Flexible conduit cable glands
● Remote installation-kit

4.2.3 Preparing the electrical installation
1. Loosen set-screw (2) and unscrew lid from instrument
(Figure A on the fold-out page).
2. Pull-out the PCB unit.
3. Proceed with the figure on the fold-out page
corresponding to your Polytron model and signal output.
4.2.4 Connecting the 4-20mA/HART
For connections to a control unit (PLC), refer to the
documentation corresponding to the control unit.
1. Pull off the 5-pin connector.
2. Connect the three wires for power and signal to the
appropriate terminal as indicated in the wiring table and
figure.
3. Plug connector back into socket and tighten screws.
4. Close the instrument, see 4.2.6 Closing the instrument.
4.2.5 Grounding
1. Ground the enclosure of the instrument locally at the
grounding lug.
2. Connect the shield of the wires only to the instrument
earth ground of the controller (e g. chassis, ground
busbar, etc.).
Unless special measures are taken (e. g. capacitive
earthing), the shield must only be connected at one end.
4.2.6 Closing the instrument
1. Ensure the following connections are properly made:
a. Wiring screws are tightened to the correct torque.
b. All cable connectors are secured with screws.
c. The sensor connector is plugged.
d. The grounding cable coming from the enclosure is
connected to the lug on the PCB unit (Figure E on the
fold-out page)
2. Place PCB unit back into the enclosure.
3. Screw the lid back on, until it is seated with correct torque,
and tighten set-screw.
