OPERATION TESTING
Electrical Connections
4. Check polarity of battery posts.
NOTE: The positive battery post usually has a larger diameter than the negative post.
5. Connect the ring terminal of the red jumper wire to the positive battery post.
6. Attach the quick connect terminal of the red jumper wire to the positive male tab "To Battery" on
the junction box.
7. Connect the ring terminal of the black jumper wire to the negative battery post.
8. Attach the quick connect terminal of the black jumper wire to the negative male tab "To Battery" on
the junction box.
9. Install battery box cover.
10. Connect the charger to a constant source of power matching the pump nameplate voltage.
• Connect the charger to its own circuit, with no other electric receptacles or equipment in the cir-
cuit.
• Ensure that the fuses or circuit breaker are of ample capacity in the electrical circuit.
• Plug charger into a properly grounded receptacle.
11. Ensure that the proper indicator lights are illuminated per the charger manual and that the fault
light is not on.
NOTE: When the complete backup system is installed, power is supplied to the backup pump
through the charger/controller after the float is activated.
OPERATION TESTING
Risk of damage to pump or other equipment.
• Always check the power cord and electric receptacle for damage or corrosion before each use. The power cord on
these units cannot be replaced. If damaged, replace the pump.
• Do not let the unit run dry (without liquid). It is designed to be cooled by pumping fluid. The seal may be dam-
aged and the motor may fail if the pump is allowed to run dry.
1. Test the primary pump in accordance with manufacturer instructions.
2. Disconnect power to primary pump.
3. Ensure the gate valve in the discharge line is open.
4. Run water into basin until the backup pump is activated.
5. Make sure that the backup pump is functioning as intended.
• Confirm that no potential obstructions exist that could inhibit switch operation.
• Verify the ON/OFF levels are within specification.
6. Drain the basin.
7. Disconnect power to the charger.
8. Run water into the sump basin to ensure the backup pump still functions as intended.
• Confirm that spray from the air bleed hole is captured within the basin.
9. Activate the alarm by pressing the round ALARM button on the junction box until the ALARM DISABLED
LED indicator turns off.
10. Plug in the primary and backup pumps.
