6. Setting up, installation and putting into operation

Place the device on a fi rm, non-combustible surface in such a way that it is stable.
For dimensions and weight see chapter 10 (Tech. Data).
No combustible materials must be deposited or stored in the direct vicinity of the
charging unit.
After unpacking, check the device and accessories to make sure everything is present
and dispose of the packaging in an environmentally-friendly manner.
See chapter 4 (Scope of supply).
Safety regulations for setting up the device. It is absolutely essential that you observe
the following instructions:
• Before putting into operation check to make sure that the fi gures on the rating
plate agree with the local power supply fi gures.
• Check the mains lead and plug for damage before use. If there is damage, the
device must not be plugged into the mains.
• Do not short the electrical contacts on the handpiece with metal objects or
liquids.
• Set up the device at a shockproof place which is protected against splashes of
water and other liquids.
• Do not set up the device above or near sources of heat. When setting up, leave
suffi cient space round the device.
• Do not expose the device to direct sunlight or ultraviolet radiation!
• Do not set up the device in potentially explosive atmospheres where highly
fl ammable air prevails or can arise (anaesthetic mixtures, oxygen, etc.).

Plug the charging unit in at the mains in accordance with VDE regulations and the
regulations issued by your local power supply company.
7. Working with the Signum HiLite pre
The Signum HiLite pre is supplied with power from a rechargeable lithium ion battery
which is built into the handpiece.
7.1 Charging unit
Plug the power supply cable into the socket at the back of the charging unit (7) and
plug in at the mains. The GREEN LED (10) lights up.
To charge the battery:
Place the handpiece in the receptacle of the charging unit (7). The orange LED (9)
lights up. The charging phase is completed as soon as the orange LED (9) goes out.
If an error occurs during the charging phase, the red LED (8) lights up (see chapter 11.
