Setting up the instrument
Please pay attention to the ambient conditions listed in the
technical data section (temperature and humidity).
Start-up
Before starting up the instrument, please check the conformi-
ty of the voltage indicated on the ID-plate with your main volt-
age.
If the voltage does not match, the instrument should not be
operated.
Connect the instrument only to a grounded socket.
The two functions "Stirring" and "Heating" can be started
simultaneously:
Stirring
• The stirring function is started, controlled, and stopped with
the right control knob:
• Place the magnetic bar in the vessel, and then place the
vessel in the middle of the hotplate.
• Turn the right control clockwise, the green Stir indicator light
comes on.
• Speed control: By turning the control clockwise, the motor
speed can be adjusted from 150 to 1200 rpm.The magnet-
ic bar turns counterclockwise. The figures 1 to 10 are for ref-
erence only.
• To stop the Stirring function, turn the Stir Control Knob coun-
terclockwise.
RH basic
REMARKS
Magnetic bars:
There are several different magnetic bars on the market. Aside from
speed, the intensity of stirring depends on the shape and the size of
the magnetic bar. For best results, IKA® recommends the IKAFLON"
stirring bar 40 mm in length. Do not use magnetic bars over 60 mm in
length.
Beakers:
For effective stirring, the beaker or vessel used must be permeable to a
magnetic field, (a non-ferrous material). Glass, Austenitic stainless steel,
or aluminum are acceptable.
Viscosity of liquids:
For liquids above 500 mPas the coupling between the magnets is not
strong enough to turn the magnetic bar.
Therefore it is not recommended to use the RH basic for this purpose.
