four
red screws holding the panel
board in
place (fig. 1).
Carefully
lower
the
turntable
platter
onto
the
turntable
shaft.
Place
the
platter
mat
onto
the
turntable platter.
MOUNTING
THE DUST COVER
of dust cover.
MOUNTING
OF
THE
COUNTERWEIGHT
AND
HEADSHELL
Take out the counterweight
from styrofoam pad.
Mount
the counterweight
by slipping
it onto
the
rear
of
the
tonearm
(fig.
2)
and
turning
it
counter-clockwise
(viewed from the front). If your
unit
contains
a
mounted
cartridge,
install
the
headshell
by
inserting
it into
the
end
of the
tonearm
as
far
as
it will
go. Turn
the screw
clockwise to draw the shell up tightly (fig. 3). If
your unit does not contain
a mounted
cartridge,
proceed with the following paragraph.
MOUNTING
OF A CARTRIDGE
Before mounting the cartridge make sure that the
stylus is covered by the guard.
Before mounting, we suggest that the stylus unit be
removed
from
the
cartridge
body
to
prevent
damaging
the
delicate
cantilever
and
diamond.
Take the stylus unit between thumb and forefinger
and gently withdraw
by pulling it forward
out of
the cartridge.
Fasten
the cartridge
to the headsheli,
using the
shortest possible
screws
supplied with
the head-
shel!. Do not fully tighten the screws yet. Be sure
that the axis of the cartridge parallels the axis of
the
headsheil
as
shown
in
fig. 4.
To
wire
the
cartridge, grasp each of the push-on connectors by
the lug end with a pair of long-nose pliers and push
on
to
the
appropriate
pin
at
the
rear
of
the
cartridge.
The
wires
in
the
headshell
are
color
coded as follows:
RED
Right channel hot (+)
GREEN
Right channel ground (—)
WHITE
Left channel hot (+)
BLUE
-—
Left channel ground (—)
At
this stage
stylus unit can
be remounted.
The
guiding
slot
of the
cartridge
body
gives
correct
alignment. Press in the unit until it firmly touches
the front part of the cartridge body.
Position
the cartridge so that the stylus tip jines up
with
the
mark
indicated
in
the
stylus
position
gauge
(fig. 5) to make the final adjustment of the
cartridge
in the
headshell.
Tighten
the mounting
screws.
TONEARM ADJUSTMENTS
BALANCING
After
mounting
the
headshell
at
the
tonearm
replace
or turn
up
the stylus guard.
Untie
the
mounting viny! which hoids the tonearm. Unplug
the power cord, set the antiskating knob to "0",
and
make
sure that cueing knob is in the down
position.
Rotate
the turntable
platter clockwise
a
few
times
by hand
to make
sure
the auto-return
mechanism is disengaged.
Lift the tonearm off the tonearm rest and place it
to the left of the arm rest (viewed from the front).
Turn the counterweight until the tonearm balances
horizontally (fig. 6).
Return
the tonearm to the arm rest and clamp it
with lock-lever of the rest.
STYLUS
FORCE
ADJUSTMENT
Without turning the counterweight itself, turn the
calibration
ring at the front so that the "0" lines
up with the line on top of the tonearm
(fig. 7). If
the counterweight is turned, repeat balancing. Now
turn the counterweight to the left (as you face it)
until
the
recommended
stylus
force
for your
alicia lines up with the tine on the tonearm (fig.
ANTISKATING
ADJUSTMENT
The antiskating adjustment is calibrated for conical
styli. Turn
the antiskating
knob
so that it cor-
responds to the tracking force you have set. If your
stylus
is elliptical,
adjust
the
antiskating
force
referring to Graph
1.
Proper tracking force and antiskating are necessary
for both the best possible sound and the longest
record and stylus life. Improper settings wil! wear
out
both your stylus and your records premature-
ly. Make sure that the proper stylus force is always
applied.
HEIGHT
OF CUEING
DEVICE
Put a record
on
and
set the cueing
knob to up.
Move
the
tonearm
over
the
record.
The stylus
should clear the record by 5 mm,
This clearance
can
be
adjusted,
if necessary,
with
one
of the
screws on the cueing platform (fig. 9). To increase
the
clearance,
turn
the
screw
clockwise;
if the
Clearance
is too
great,
turn
the
screw
counter-
clockwise.
This
turntable
is equipped
with
an
autoreturn
mechanism
which
returns the tonearm
to the tonearm rest whenever the record is finished
playing or if the STOP knob is operated. Uniess the
clearance
between
stylus
and
record
is properly
adjusted, the tonearm will not return to the correct
Position of the arm rest and possibly fall onto the
record surface thereby damaging it.
Check
for this possible problem
after your unit is
connected
and operational.
Return
the tonearm to
its rest and clamp it with lock-lever of the rest.
CONNECTIONS
Connect the shielded audio cables to the PHONO
or
MAG
PHONO
inputs
of your
receiver
or
amplifier.
Use the red plug for the right channel
(R) and the white plug for the left channel
(L).
Connect the ground wire to the GND terminal on
your amplifier or receiver (fig. 10}.
Make
certain
that the ground
wire
is securely
connected
to the ground terminal. A loose connec-
tion will produce hum from the speaker.
Plug in AC power cord.
POSITIONING
Please
note that the best position for your turn-
table is on a rigid base to prevent low-frequency
feedback
and vibrations.
Consequently
do not set
up your turntable near to or even on your speakers
or on the floor. Due to an increased bass Jevel you
should avoid a positioning
in a corner because this
may lead to a situation where feedback or howling
occurs.
:
OPERATION
To maintain the quality of your records, do not
touch the grooves. When you put the records on
the
turntable
platter
make
sure
that
they
lie
smoothly upon the turntable platter mat.
This may
not
be possible
with
extremely
warped
records which
may
lead to mistracking and hence
giving a distorted sound. So avoid buying warped
records. In case of warped records it is better to
increase the tracking force to the maximum recom-
mended by the cartridge manufacturer.
CLEANING
OF
THE
STYLUS
Before
playing
a
record
make
sure
that
the
stylus-tip is free of dust, because residues of dust
lead to distortion and increased wear of the stylus
and
grooves.
Consult
your
dealer
for a special
brush for this application. Clean the stylus-tip by
brushing from the back to the front of the stylus
unit parallel with the cantilever. Lateral or back-
ward
movements
may
lead
to damage
of the
Pick-up.
'PLAYING
A RECORD
Set the input switch of your amplifier or receiver
to PHONO. Raise the dust cover and place a record
on
the
turntable
platter.
When
listening to a 45
rpm record without plastic centering part, use the
attached 45 rpm adapter jointly.
Loosen the tonearm clamp of the tonearm rest and
make
sure
that
the
cartridge's
stylus guard
is
removed or swung away.
Be sure the cueing knob is in the up position. Move
the tonearm to the desired spot on the record and
the
turntable
platter
wil!
begin
to run.
Set
the
speed selector knob to the desired speed.
Move the cueing knob to the down position. The
tonearm will descend the record. When
it reaches
the end of the record, it will automatically lift and
return
to its rest, and the turntable
platter will
stop.
To shut off during play, press the stop knob, and
the turntable will cycle to off, as at the end of a
record,
