7.2 Applications – Plumb Lines
Examples:
• Projection of the plumb line during negative plaster taking for lower extremity prostheses,
orthoses and spinal orthoses (fgs. 3 and 4).
• Projection of the plumb line when trying on the plaster socket and prosthetic socket or
during balance (fig. 8).
• Projection of the plumb line during alignment and trial fitting of lower extremity prostheses
(fig. 6).
Method:
Please, observe the initiating steps mentioned before.
After loosening the ratchet screw at the underside of the apparatus, move LaserLine to the side
until the vertical laser beam will run through the requested point of the object.
7.3 Applications – Shifting
Examples:
• Demonstration of the medio-lateral shifting of the foot in relation to the knee center – from
the dorsal aspect.
• Checking the deviation of the trunk (lateral deviation from C7 in relation to the anal fold)
– from the dorsal aspect (fig. 7).
Method:
For these applications the plumb line – as described above – is to be projected from the dorsal
aspect through the knee joint and C7, respectively.
7.4 Applications – Control of Angles
Examples:
• Flexion, abduction and adduction angles of body sections in relation to the plumb line –
from the frontal or lateral aspect. (fig. 8)
• Trunk positions, for example for spinal orthoses.
Method:
Beginning from two vertical, congruent laser lines – an intersection point is provided by turning
the upper laser beam coming from the "zero" position. This intersection point is the vertex of the
angle to be checked.
Take this point to the requested place by vertical and lateral moving of LaserLine on the stand,
for example to the hip joint or knee joint rotation point.
Turn now the upper laser to the requested direction. The angle in relation to the plumb line can
now be checked by means of the angle scale of the rotation button (8).
Further examples:
• Control of the knee angle in the sagittal plane
• Control of abduction/adduction angles, in the frontal plane, of upper or lower legs relative
to knee axis
Method:
In the above cases not the angle in relation to the plumb line is to be checked but that between
two directions. To achieve this, the scale ring at the rotation button (8) must first be disengaged
by loosening the scale ring lock screw.
