4. Fasten a Leg (CC & DD) to each corner of the Swivel (J) with a 5/16" x 3" Lag Bolt (N) and a
5/16" Washer (M) as shown in Figure 4. Do not overtighten the bolts because you might strip
the threads.
NOTE: A new swivel may feel frozen or be difficult to turn. Loosen it by twisting it before assembly.
Because the edges may be sharp, use a towel or wear gloves to protect your hands. After
touching the swivel, thoroughly wipe your hands so oil does not get on the wood.
5. Fasten a #8 x 1-1/4" Black Screw (O) through both ends of the four Long Side Stretchers (I) and
into the Legs. Insert the screws into the slightly upper pair of Long Side Stretchers first. Insert the
screws at an angle so that they do not go through the other side of the legs. See Figures 4 and
4a. Do not use screws for the Short Side Stretchers (HH).
6. Spread glue evenly into the three center holes in the top of the Seat (A). Insert the larger chucked
ends of the three Back Spindles (G) into these holes. Gently tap with a rubber mallet and quickly
wipe away any excess glue. See Figure 5.
Spread glue evenly into the 2" oblong holes in the left and right Back Posts (E & F). Face the
7.
curved edge of the Back (B) forward and attach the Back Posts to the Back (B). See Figure 6.
Spread glue thinly but evenly into the three holes in the bottom of the Back (B) (if you spread too
much glue it will drip out) and into the two outside holes in the Seat (A). Insert the back Posts
(E & F) into the holes in the Seat while you work, one at a time, the Back Spindles (G) into the
holes in the Back.Turn the Back Spindles (G) so the flat portions follow the curve of the Back (B).
You may need to use a rubber mallet to pound these pieces into place. It is important that the
shoulders of the Back Posts and spindles are in contact with the Seat.
NOTE: When inserted, the Back Posts (E & F) extend below the bottom of the Seat. Therefore, place
the Back over the edge of your work table or place something under the seat to raise it up.
