Starting the device and performing measurements:
Procedure
Illustration
In order to switch on the device, please
press the On/Off button and wait until the
display shows 0.000 g.
IMPORTANT:
The scale is only ready for
operation when the magnetic measuring
head
has
been
installed
correctly.
Otherwise, the error message "- LH -" will
be displayed.
Use the enclosed graphite plate to check
that the magnetic scale is functioning
correctly. Place the graphite plate in the
centre of the Plexiglas cover as shown in the
illustration in the next step. If the displayed
value is in the range of +0,200 g to +0,400 g,
the magnetic scale is working properly.
Remove the graphite plate and zero the
scale by pressing the "-> 0 <-" button. The
display shows the value 0.000 g. Place your
test object, in our example a bar of fine
gold, on the magnetic scale as shown in the
illustration (in the centre of the Plexiglas
cover). Wait until the measurement result
has stabilized and make a note of the value
so that you can interpret the measurement
result.
Usually, the test objects do not need to be
removed from their packaging (plastic films,
blisters, and capsules) for the measurement.
If a negative value is output for a test object
made of fine gold, it is highly likely that it is
a fake. For more information on analysing
and interpreting the measurement results,
see chapter 6.
Remove the test object from the magnetic
scale and zero the scale again by pressing
the "-> 0 <-" button. The display shows the
value 0.000 g. The magnetic scale is ready
for the next measurement.
