- that the operating instructions described for each component of the system are met
- that the general disposition of the work situation reduces the fall risk, the drop height and the pendulum movement in the case of a fall.
- that there is no object or obstruction in case of fall.
- that the vertical clearance is sufficient (free space beneath the feet of the user) and no obstacles disrupt the normal functioning of the fall arrest
system. (see 2.1)
Provide a safe distance from power lines or areas with an electrical hazard.
Do not use product around moving machinery.
2.0 System compatibility
The fall arrest system is composed by: An anchorage point (Z359.18), A linking system (Z359.13, Z359.14, Z359.15, Z359.16), A body supporting device (Z359.11). All
the system components are connected together with connectors (Z359.12).
The full body harness (Z359.11) is the only body grip to be allowed for use with a fall arrest system. It must be connected to the fall arrest system by connectors
(Z359.12). The harness must be connected to the fall protection system through the dorsal or sternal attachment point.
Every combination of different equipment can cause unexpected dangerous situation that have a negative influence on safety of the user.
Delta Plus equipment is designed for use with Delta Plus approved components and subsystems only. Substitutions or replacements made with non-approved
components or subsystems may jeopardize compatibility of equipment and may effect the safety and reliability of the complete system.
Use only connectors that are suitable to each application and are compatible with connecting elements.
- Connectors must be compatible with the anchorage other system components.
- Connectors must be compatible in size, shape, and strength.
- Non-compatible connectors may unintentionally disengage.
Connectors are considered to be compatible with connecting elements when they have been designed to work together in such a way that their sizes and shapes do
not cause their gate mechanisms to inadvertently open regardless of how they become oriented. Contact Delta Plus if you have any questions about compatibility.
Self-locking snap hooks and carabiners are required by ANSI Z359.12 and OSHA. Connectors (hooks, carabiners, and D-Rings) must be capable of supporting at least
5000 lbs (22.2 kN).
Parking lanyard attachments is intended for hang the free end of a lanyard, a energy absorbing lanyard, or a self-retracting device when is not connected to an
anchorage point for fall protection application. Parking lanyard attachment shall never be used as a fall protection attachment element.
2.1 Limitations
CAPACITY:
This DEVICE can only be used by one person at a time. ②
The fall arrest device is designed for use by persons with a combined weight (clothing, tools) ranging from 130 lbs (59 kg) to 310 lbs (141 kg). (See reference table)
This equipment should be used in work environments with minimum temperatures of -32°C / maximum of +50°C.
CLEARANCE:
A complete Personal Fall Arrest System is an assembly of components and subsystems used to arrest a person in a free fall.
A complete Personal Fall Arrest System is composed by:
- An anchorage point (Z359.18),
- A linking system (Z359.13, Z359.14, Z359.15, Z359.16), Energy absorbing system
- A body supporting device (Z359.11), Full Body Harness
All the system components are connected together with connectors (Z359.12).
The calculation of the Required Fall Clearance Distance (RD) includes espacialy but without restriction:
- The free vertical length of the linking system (LL).
- The deployment distance of the complete fall arrest system (DD). The deployment distance have to include the deflection of
anchorage point and anchorage connectors, the performance of the energy absorbing system, and the stretch elongation of the
full body harness.
- The height of the worker (HH).
- A safety factor (C). This factor is an additional safety distance of 1m.
The performance of the energy absorbing system/fall arrest device. (See SPECIFICATIONS: ⑨)
Check that there is enough height below the user according to the equipment used.
WARNING !
If there is a lateral offset between the line from the anchorage point to the operator and the line or direction of potential fall, in the event of a fall the operator may
swing laterally.
FUNCTION:
Always test the SRD for locking and retractation before each use.
