KICKBACK
A KICKBACK CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR
DEATH TO THE OPERATOR OR OTHERS. TO
DECREASE THE RISK YOU MUST KNOW THE
CAUSES OF KICKBACK AND HOW TO PREVENT
THEM.
• Kickback occurs when the upper quadrant of the
guide bar contacts a solid object or is pinched. The
upper quadrant of the guide bar is therefore called
the kickback zone. Kickback can occur suddenly
and can throw the product in the direction of the
operator.
• The reaction of the cutting force of the chain causes
a rotational force on the chainsaw in the direction
opposite to the chain movement. This may fling the
bar up and back in an uncontrolled arc mainly in the
plane of the bar.
