3 Description and Function
3.1 Application
The Elastic Joints serve as motion guidance of orthoses for children, juveniles
and adults; they secure and support joints during functional deficiencies
and –failures at the lower, as well at the upper extremity. With the Elastic
Joints, many indications for an orthosis can be treated; and quick, time- and
moneysaving treatment can be achieved. They are lightweight, self-adjusting,
low in maintenance and exchangeable. Furthermore, they are flexible in ap-
plication, i.e. within one orthosis, combinations of different elastic-joint shore
hardness-degrees are possible.
3.2 Construction
The Elastic Joints connect single orthosis elements to a dynamic unit, while
they build a polycentric motion perimeter with minimal elongation at the
same time.
4 Assembling
16/36
Place the dummy on the plaster mold
in order to create the necessary cavity
for the Elastic Joints.
Advice: Dummies may "shrink" a little
when they are frequently used. There-
fore we recommend replacing them
after about 10 times of use.
Position the central area of the dum-
mies on the projected axis of the ankle
joint and attach them with the two
enclosed nails on the plaster mold.
Additional application of plaster may
be necessary, because the Elastic Joints
arch internally during plantar flexion.
