5 Technical Notes
Thermoforming directly over the Elastic Joints does not damage the material,
but using dummies guarantees larger surface coverage and support of the
Elastic Joints. The outcome of this is a better control and more precise joint
articulation. Elastic-joint Dorsiflex and Tamarack-joints are fully compatible as
for both joint types, identical shape dummies have been used.
Since the dummies are designed uniformly for each size, the Elastic Joints
can simply be interchanged depending on their size from neutral into flexed.
The convertibility eases adjustments on the patient's needed orthosis. There-
fore adaptive adjustments can be conducted easier in case of a change of
the patient's requirements.
These joints can also be applied in order to achieve an unlimited or sup-
ported movement of plantar flexion in the elbow, wrist or the knee (only for
children in selected cases).
Attention!
Please take special care, that the joint is not exposed to corrosive
chemicals and substances like salt- and freshwater, acids, dust or
sand! Any claims against Streifeneder ortho.production GmbH
will expire under these conditions.

6 Maintenance and spare parts
With the use of Elastic Joints, the individually built orthosis (customised
production) must be inspected every 3 months visually and functionally.
During this inspection, the screw connections of the Elastic Joints and the
amount of dorsal flexion support must be examined and exchanged, if
necessary.
