TROUBLESHOOTING
The buttons are not functioning
• Check to see if the battery is installed
properly. Check the + and - marks of the
battery.
• Check to see if the battery is worn out.
You may need to replace the battery.
• Check to see if the HOLD switch is set to
the HOLD position.
• Check to see if the memory status is
alright. Initialise the recorder using MM-
FX500 Manager or using the Format menu
on the MM-FX500 recorder.
• Try reinstalling the battery. Sometimes
you will need to reinstall the battery as this
will initialize the recorder.
Blank or false display error
• Try reinstalling
initialize the recorder.
The recorder is not recognized by the PC
If MM-FX500 Manager does not recognize
the player, refer to the following:
• First, check if the parallel cable is
connected properly, or if the player is on
(in STOP mode).
• Click the MMC Refresh button.
• Make sure the correct MMC slot is
selected.
• Generally, MM-FX500 Manager supports
SPP, EPP and ECP parallel port modes.
We recommend ECP mode (I/O address
0378, IRQ7) for the best communication
between the PC and MM-FX500 recorder.
• If MM-FX500 Manager fails to recognize
MM-FX500 recorder in ECP mode, try
other modes such as SPP and EPP.
• Refresh the printer port using Device
Manager in Windows (right click
My Computer → Properties → Device
Manager → Ports → Printer Port →
Refresh).
Unable to transfer data from recorder to
PC

• Check to be sure that the supplied 25-to-
15 pin parallel cable is properly connected
to your PC and the recorder.
• Check to be sure there is an MMC with
available memory inserted. Click on the
MMC Refresh button to check the
remaining memory level and check the
size of the files stored in the player.
• Check if the battery is low. You may need
to replace the battery.
• Make sure the original MMC is selected
when downloading a recorded AFX file.
• Make sure MP3 files to be downloaded do
not contain a bitrate higher than 192kbps.
• Make sure MP3 files to be downloaded
are not in VBR (variable bit rate) format.
Communication error during file transfer
• Disconnect parallel port sharing devices.
• Eliminate use of parallel-Port-Selector.
Connect the recorder to the PC parallel
port directly.
An MP3 file is not displayed in the MMC
display list box even if it can be
downloaded
If you had no problem communicating with
the recorder previously, it may be that the
recorder could not be recognized by the
MM-FX500 Manager software. In this case:
• Format the MMC card by clicking the
MMC Format button.
• You may also try unplugging and then
reconnecting the cable.
The MM-FX500 recorder cannot play
certain files with extension MP3
• The files may not be in MP3 (MPEG1
Audio Layer 3) format.
• The files may be in VBR (Variable Bitrate)
format.
