SCREW AIR COMPRESSOR
TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS
PROBLEM
Compressor with very
fast load/unload cycles.
Oil by pass to system.
Compressor's overheating.
Excessive oil consumption.
(Too much oil found in
the air network).
Excessive noise or vibration.
60
PROBABLE CAUSE
Air consumption much lower than
compressor's production capacity.
Discharge valve closed.
(in this case, pressure in the network
is very low).
High load loss near compressor.
Excess oil in tank.
Compressor's oil foaming.
Separator element compromised.
Oil filter clogged.
Air filter clogged.
Low oil level.
Cooler core clogged.
Thermostatic valve malfunction.
Leakage in the circuit.
Return line of air/oil separator
element is clogged.
Separator element damaged.
(In this case, the separator
differential pressure indicator
will show little or no restriction).
Compressor's operating pressure
below 3.4 bar (50 psig) for too long.
Bearings of motor or unit damaged.
Cooling fan blade is broken or warped.
Loose or worn out belt.

WHAT TO DO
Switch off some parallel compressor
or install larger receiver.
Open the air outlet valve slowly.
Eliminate load loss.
Remove
excess
oil .
Load and unload cycle is fast.
Replace separator element.
Replace it.
Evaluate cause and change oil using
(see Table 3, page 53).
Clean it.
Call technical assistance.
Locate and correct leakage.
Remove, clean and replace ducts.
Change air/oil separator element and
service oil.
Check reason for excessive demand
(reduce demand or add capacity).
Call technical assistance.
Call technical assistance.
Tighten or replace belt.
