3.5 SERVICE AiRCLEANER
The engine will not run properly and may be damaged if using
a dirty air cleaner. Clean or replace the air cleaner paper filter
once a year. Cleanor replacemore often if operatingunder dusty
conditions (Figure18). The air filter part numberis 0G84420151.
To clean or replacepaperair filter:
1. Removeair cleanercover and remove paperfilter.
2. Cleanpaperfilter by tapping it gently on a solid surface. If the
filter is too dirty, replaceit with a new one. Disposeof the old
filter properly.
3. Clean air cleaner cover, then insert new paper filter into the
base of the air cleaner.Re-installair cleanercover.

The engine exhaust muffler has a spark arrestor screen. Inspect
and cleanthe screen at least once eachyear (Figure19). If unit is
used regularly,inspect and clean more often.

land, it must equipped with a spark arrestor.
The spark arrestor must be maintained
in good
condition by the owner/operator.
Cleanand inspectthe spark arrestor whenthe engine is at ambient
temperatureas follows:
1. Remove the spark arrestor screen from the muffler by
looseningthe clamp and removing the screw.
2. Inspect screen and replace if torn, perforated or otherwise
damaged. DO NOT USE a defective screen. If screen is not
damaged,clean it with commercial solvent.
3. Replace the spark arrestor and secure with the clamp and
screw.

3.6 VALVE CLEARANCE
* Intake-- 0.15 _ O.02mm(cold), (0.006" _ 0.0008" inches)
* Exhaust-- 0.20 _ O.02mm (cold) (0.008" _ 0.0008" inches)
After the first 50 hoursof operation, checkthe valve clearance
in the engineand adjustif necessary.
Important: If feeling uncomfortable about doing this procedureor
the proper tools are not available,pleasetake the generatorto the
nearestservice centerto havethe valve clearanceadjusted.This is
a very important step to ensure longest life for the engine.
3.7 GENERAL
Thegeneratorshould be started at least once every thirty days and
be allowed to run at least 30 minutes. If this cannot be done and
the unit must be stored for more than 30 days, use the following
information as a guideto prepareit for storage.
NEVER store engine with fuel in tank indoors
or in enclosed,
poorly ventilated areas where
fumes may reach an open flame, spark or pilot
light as on a furnace, water heater, clothes dryer
or other gas appliance.
