the oil pump. Turn the screw clockwise to
increase the flow rate and counter-clockwise to
reduce it.
• Replace intermediate cover 19 (ill. 2) and secure
with Allen screw 18.
• Release bottom guard flap 15 (ill. 1). Fold up
sprocket cover 12 and tighten cylinder-head
screw 13. Replace combination screw driver 11 in
the mounting in the cover.
• Check that the flow rate corresponds to the rele-
vant requirements by switching on briefly.
3.5
Setting the parallel guide fence
When making parallel cuts, parallel guide fence 7 (ill.
1) can be guided along the outside edge of the work-
piece or, on large workpieces (cutting width exceed-
ing 530 mm / 20 7/8 in.), along a lath nailed onto the
workpiece. For such applications, it can also be used
the other way round rotated through 180°, i.e. the
narrow edge facing upwards, whilst the narrow edge
must face downwards when guiding along the outer
edge of the workpiece. The parallel guide fence is
also designed for use on either side of the machine.
To adjust the cutting width or to use the fence on the
other side of the machine, loosen wing screws 8 (ill.
1) and move the parallel guide fence as required.
Retighten the wing screws again.
When using the parallel guide fence on the left side
of the machine, the cutting width is the straightfor-
ward dimension between the guide surface of the
fence and the tracing edge 29 (ill. 6). This dimension
remains the same with all cutting angles! If the paral-
lel guide fence is used on the right side of the
machine, the chain width must be deducted from this
measurement (6.4 mm / 1/4 in. with vertical cuts).
Sawing a trial cut is recommended, however, in
order to check that the setting is correct. When saw-
ing with the right side of the chain against the mark-
ing, tracing edges 30 provide a guideline for cutting
at the indicated angle (ill. 6).
3.6
Setting for angled cuts
(plumb and compound mitre cuts)
The chain bar can be tilted by up to 60° in both
directions for executing plumb and compound mitre
cuts. For such applications, the machine is placed
on a suitable support so that the chain bar can move
freely. Slacken off knob 16 (ill. 1) and deactivate the
catch by drawing and turning the knob 9 to allow the
machine to be tilted. The cutting angle can be read
off angle scale 17.
If the catch is active, the 0° and 45° positions can be
easier set.
Depending on the cutting angle required, the maxi-
mum cutting depths are as follows:
bei 60° – 130 mm (5 1/8 in.)
bei 45° – 184 mm (7 1/4 in.)
bei 30° – 225 mm (8 7/8 in.)
bei 15° – 251 mm (9 7/8 in.)
After setting the cutting angle, retighten knob 16.

Switching on and off

Before switching on, make sure that
the chain bar and saw chain are not
in contact with anything. Lead the
mains cable away from the machine
to the rear. Hold the machine
securely by the two handles.
• Switching on: First, release the starting lock-off
by pressing locking lever 10.1 (ill. 1) forwards.
Then press switch lever 10. Since the switch does
not have a locking device, the machine continues
to run for as long as the switch is pressed.
The built-in electronics ensure a jerk-free accelera-
tion
when switching on and control the speed
according to the value set.
In addition, the electronics also reduce the speed of
the motor in case of overload, i.e. the saw chain
stops. In this case eliminate the cause for the over-
load until the saw chain has reached full speed
again. Now continue cutting with reduced feed rate.
• Switching off: To switch off the machine, release
switch lever 10. This automatically re-activates the
starting lock-off device and prevents the carpen-
ter's chain saw from being switched on accidentally.
As soon as the machine is switched off, the auto-
matic brake is activated. This reduces the saw chain
deceleration time to approx. 1 second.

Operating instructions
The carpenter's chain saw ZS 260 E is similar to a
portable circular saw as regards its handling and
design. Riving knife / splitter 4 prevents the saw
chain from jamming, while the bottom bearing end
guard of the chain set prevents machine recoil. The
chain saw is ideal for cross cuts at large cutting
depths, especially for cutting laminated beams.
