7.1. "ERROR" DISPLAY
The 3M Electronic Pipettor II - 1 mL has a built-in monitoring program to control the pipettor mechanism. A display showing "Error" then "Press Ent." message
indicates that the pipettor has been unable to perform a function properly. Go through the following procedure to clear this display and resume pipetting:
1. Allow the pipettor to charge on the stand or through the transformer for a minimum 30 minutes.
2. Press
to clear the error message. The display will show "reset" and "press tip" messages.
3. Reset the pipettor by pressing either of the tip ejector buttons
7.2. BUBBLES ON THE PLATE
The appearance of many small bubbles on the 3M Petrifilm Plate may indicate that the dispense speed is too fast. Lower the dispense speed (see
Speed Selection, Section 6.8).
In more viscous samples, a single large bubble may form if the tip is allowed to contact the sample surface during dispensing. To prevent this, position
the tip at least 5 mm above the surface during dispensing.
7.3. LIQUID IN TIP CONE/GREASING THE PISTON
If liquid is aspirated beyond the tip cone filter, clean the tip cone as follows:

1. Remove the battery pack (1).
2. Unscrew the tip ejector collar (2) counter-clockwise and remove it.
3. Unscrew the tip cone holder (3) counter-clockwise and remove the:
- tip cone holder (3)
- tip cone (4)
- spring (5)
- tip cone filter if fitted
4. Unscrew the exposed piston (6) counter-clockwise and remove it.
5. Moisten a soft, lint-free wipe with 70% ethanol and gently clean the tip cone. The interior of the tip ejector collar can be cleaned with a cotton
swab.
6. Let the parts dry.
7. Apply a thin layer of grease to the surface of the piston.
noTE: Use only the piston grease specially recommended by your 3M food safety representative. other types of grease can permanently
damage the piston.
Reassemble the unit and perform a calibration check:
8. Screw the piston (6) clockwise into position.
9. Place the spring (5) around the piston (6).
10. Push the tip cone (4) into position and attach it by screwing the tip cone holder (3) back. Replace the tip cone filter.
11. Attach the tip ejector collar (2) by screwing it clockwise.
12. Replace the battery pack (1). Reset the pipettor and press the start button several times to test the movement. Test the tip ejector operation.
noTE: This same procedure is used to grease the piston. Monthly greasing of the piston is recommended.
