Malfunction
Piston does not react to
modifications in the position
controller
Control characteristics are
imprecise
Piston rod position does not
correspond to the set point
Rapid speed operation does not
function
Continual valve pulsing in the
end position
Piston hits the bottom or top
of the valve at the end position
Piston does not reach the set
position

11 If Malfunctions Occur
Possible cause
One or more plug connectors are
not contacted
Positioning unit is incorrectly
connected
Position controller defective
Load on cylinder is too high
Cylinder air column is not rigid
enough
Interference by electrical fields
from adjacent devices
Set point/actual value
comparison set incorrectly
Cylinder force is insufficient
In special versions: Coding plug
not inserted correctly
DIP switch set incorrectly (only in
the 19" assembly)
Rapid speed not provided for with
existing size
Piston does not reach the position
where the signal is switched off
Piston end position is outside of
the cylinder work area
No pressure or pressure is too
low
If Malfunctions Occur
Remedy
Check all plug connectors and
connect correctly
Check the connection assignment
on the position controller
Exchange the position controller
Observe the load limits
Select a cylinder with a larger
diameter. Not possible to
influence the position controller!
Use shielded cables for the set
point and actual value
Set the set point (see "Setting the
work area" on page 62)
Select the correct size
In special versions: Check the
orientation of the coding plug
Check the setting of the DIP
switch
Use a version that is capable of
rapid speed operation
Set the end position closer to the
center of the cylinder
Check the connected pressure
