Tyre run-flat systems

The BMW emergency run-flat tyre sys-
tem with integral support ring enables
the car to continue moving if pressure is
lost suddenly from the tyre.
Do not exceed a road speed of 80 km/h
(app. 50 mph) and fit the spare wheel
before more than 20 kilometres (app. 13
miles) have been covered.
Do not re-use the tyre, the support
ring or the wheel until they have
been inspected by BMW
Service.<

The wheel supplied for use with the
BMW emergency run-flat tyre has a
raised safety hump inside the rim which
is intended to prevent the reinforced
tyre from slipping away from its correct
position on the rim if air pressure is lost.
Do not exceed a road speed of 80 km/h
(app. 50 mph) and fit the spare wheel
when the first safe opportunity arises.
Until then, do not stop the car.
If an emergency run-flat tyre is not
available as a replacement where
the tyre failure has occurred, a standard
tyre of the correct size can be fitted to
the rim with raised hump
The run-flat distance which can be cov-
ered depends largely on the load that
the car is carrying. At full load, the dis-
tance may be only 50 kilometres (app.
31 miles) or less, but may rise to
500 km (app. 310 miles) or more if the
car is unladen. Loss of pressure in a
front tyre, since the wheel is not driven,
or slight residual air pressue in the de-
fective tyre, will also increase the run-
flat distance in an emergency.
