PRE-START-UP

Failures that can result in personal injuries:
1. Follow the acknowledged safety practices,
and wear safety goggles and protecting
gloves whenever controlling or servicing the
refrigerant system.
2. Do not operate the compressor nor supply
electric power to the unit, except if the
compressor terminal cover is fastened and
positioned.
3. Never remove the compressor terminal
cover until all the electricity sources are
disconnected.
4. Never try to repair a welded connection while
the refrigerant system is under pressure.
5. Never use a blowpipe to remove any
component. The system contains oil and
refrigerant under pressure. To remove a
component, wear safety goggles and gloves.
Proceed as follows:
a. Interrupt the gas supply and then the
power supply to the unit.
b. Remove and recover all the refrigerant
of the system using both accesses of the
high and low pressure.
c. Cut the connector tube of the component
with a cutting tool and remove the
component from the unit.
d. Carefully unweld the remaining piping
whenever necessary. The oil can infl ame
if exposed to the blowpipe fl ame.
Proceed as follows to inspect and prepare the unit
for the initial start-up:
1. Remove the access panel.
2. Read and follow the instructions on the
WARNING, CAUTION and INFORMATION tags
that are included or sent with the unit.
3. Perform the following inspections:
a. Check for possible packaging and shipment
damages: broken lines, missing parts,
disconnected cables, etc.
b. Inspect all the connections of the refrigerant
piping and of the unit base. If any oil is
detected, this usually means a refrigerant leak.
c. Control the leaks in all refrigerant piping
connections using an electronic leak detector,
halogen lamps, or a liquid soap solution. In
case a refrigerant leak is detected.
d. Examine all the factory and fi eld cabling
connections. Ensure the connections are
complete and fi t.
e. Inspect the coil fins. If there have been
damages during the packaging or shipment,
carefully unbend the fi ns with a fi n comb.
START-UP
Preparation of the Unit - Check if the unit was
installed in conformity with these installation
instructions and with the application codes
Return Air Filters - Check if the fi lters to be
installed in the fi lter holders guides are proper.
The unit should not operate without the air fi lters.
Compressor Assembly - The compressors are
internally mounted on anti-vibration devices. Do
not loosen nor remove the compressor bolts.
Inside Cabling - Check all the electric connections
in the unit control box, and adjust when required.
Refrigerant Service Ports - Each refrigerant
system has 4 service ports of the Schrader type:
one in the suction line, one in the liquid line and
2 in the compressor discharge line. Ensure the
covers of the ports are well secured.
NOTE: When the control update package is used,
a Schrader valve is placed below the high and low
pressure switches.
Cooling - To start-up the unit, turn on the power
supply. Turn the system selection switch to COOL,
and the fan switch to AUTO. Set the thermostat
at a temperature lower than the ambient one. The
compressor starts up with the contactor closing.
Check the unit load.
Set the thermostat at a temperature above the
ambient one. The compressor will shut down.
TO TURN OFF THE UNIT – Turn the system
selection switch to OFF. If the thermostat is rest
above the room temperature, the unit shuts down
temporarily until the room temperature exceeds
the thermostat setpoint.
