Solar yield

The solar controller works on the principle of differential
temperature control. The controller always switches the
collector pump on when the difference in temperature
(collector temperature – cylinder temperature) is greater
than the preset activation difference.
The controller switches the collector pump off when the
difference in temperature (collector temperature – cylin-
der temperature) is less than the preset deactivation dif-
ference.
The technician sets the relevant parameters on the solar
controller from the installer level during installation.
The solar yield is determined from:
– the difference between the collector flow and return
temperatures
– the flow rate value set on the control valve of the flow
rate limiter (set during installation)
– the running time of the collector pump
During installation, the technician sets the flow rate lim-
iter and enters the flow rate in the installer level on the
solar controller. The solar yield is totalled in the solar
controller. The yield total can be called up and reset in
the installer level.
4.2

Reheating

The reheating function allows the cylinder to be heated
up to the required temperature during a set time win-
dow, even if the solar energy yield is insufficient. To this
end, reheating by means of an external heater or an
electric heating element is possible. You can set the time
window for reheating the solar cylinder (see Sec-
tion 5.5.3 for details).
4.3

Reheating delay

To avoid unnecessary reheating by an external heater or
electric heating element, the controller is provided with
a reheat delay feature. In this case the reheating is de-
layed by a maximum of 30 minutes, in case the collector
pump starts to run and solar yield is available. If the col-
lector pump remains off or the desired cylinder tempera-
ture has not been achieved after the delay time has ex-
pired, the reheating of the cylinder is effected by means
of the external heater or the electric heating element.
The reheating delay is activated in the installer level.
4.4

Anti-Legionella function

The purpose of the anti-Legionella function is to kill off
germs in the DHW tank and in the pipes.
When the function is activated, the cylinder, the associ-
ated hot water pipes and, if a circulation pump has been
fitted, the circulation pipes are raised to a temperature
of 70 °C at a fixed time once a week on a fixed day, or
daily.
To do this, the cylinder temperature is raised to 71 °C
and, if fitted, the circulation pump is switched on. The
anti-Legionella protection is carried out either by an ex-
6
ternal heater or an electric heating element if this is
used for reheating. The anti-Legionella function is termi-
nated when a temperature of at least 68 °C has been
measured for a period of 30 minutes.
The technician activates the anti-Legionella function in
the installer level.
4.5

Pump blockage protection

If the connected pumps have been at a standstill for
23 hours they are run for approx. three seconds to pre-
vent them from seizing.
4.6

Circulation

If you have only connected one collector array, a circula-
tion pump can be connected to the controller. A timer
programme with up to three heating windows can be set
for the circulation pump (see Section 5.5.4). In doing
this, set the timer programme so that the circulation
pump only runs at times when a demand for hot water is
expected. Otherwise the circulation pump will be run-
ning unnecessarily and will thus cool down the cylinder
little by little.
4.7

Annual calendar

The controller comes with a calendar so that an auto-
matic summer/winter changeover is possible. To activate
it, simply enter the current date in the installer level.
h
Note!
Please ensure that the controller is provided
with a power reserve of 30 minutes in the event
of a power failure. The internal clock stops after
30 minutes and the calendar will not be carried
over once the power supply is re-established. In
this case the the time must be set again and
the current date checked.
4.8

Activation duration control

Activation duration control serves to keep the solar cir-
cuit at the activation value, and thus in operation, for as
long as possible. To this end, the pump is switched on
and off in periodic bursts, depending on the difference
between the collector temperature and the temperature
at the lower sensor in the cylinder. On reaching the acti-
vation difference, the function is started (if activated)
with an activation duration of 30 % - i.e. the pump is
switched on for 18 seconds and then switched off for
42 seconds. If the temperature difference increases, the
activation duration is increased (e.g. 45 seconds on,
15 seconds off). If the temperature difference decreases,
the activation duration is reduced (e.g. 20 seconds on,
40 seconds off). The period length is always a minute.
The activation duration control is activated in the install-
er level.
