premature nebulisation within the tubes

The Sidestream nebulizer cup features
the unique Venturi Double Effect, whe-
re air enters the nebulizer cup from the
bottom (compressed air) - like conven-
tional nebulizer cups, as well as from the
top. The additional air fl ow from outside
the nebulizer cup combined with the air
fl ow from the compressor conveys even
more particles to the lungs (14).
At the nebulizer cup summit, the medici-
ne is nebulised by the air produced by the
compressor and air drawn from outside.
A central defl ector creates two currents
of nebulised air, which hit the nebulizer
cup walls. This impact causes the largest
particles to drop to the nebulizer cup fl oor
and reinitiate the cycle, while those with
a suitable dimension leave the nebulizer
cup and are breathed in by the patient.
This particular technology signifi cantly
increases particles fl ow and reduces
therapy time, which has a critical impact
on the treatment's effi ciency and its ac-
ceptance, especially with children.

EFFECTIVENESS
The special confi guration of Sidestream
enables medicine to penetrate the respi-
ratory tracts more easily, thanks to the
optimal size of nebulised aerosol parti-
cles. With the Sidestream nebulizer cup,
80% of particles are smaller than 5 mi-
cron (from 1 to 5 micron) and can reach
and deposit in the lower airways, while
particle size in traditional nebulizer cups
varies, so only 50% of particles reaches
the lower airways.

cup also reduces treatment length, with
medicine administered quickly and effec-
tively. As the table shows, Sidestream ne-
bulises the same amount of medicine as
a traditional chamber in half the time.
