INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
BATTERY
Insert a 9V Alkaline battery into the battery connector (top left corner
of the cabinet). The battery is necessary to ensure that real time will
not be lost if there is a power failure. The battery will also allow the
controller to be programmed without AC power, however, it will only
allow run times to be set for the first 8 zones.
If a battery is not installed, the controller will lose real time in the event
of a power outage, and will return to previous setting when power
returns. Replace the battery once a year when E5 is displayed.
NOTE: Since all programs are stored in non-volatile memory, you will
not lose program settings during a power failure.
CAUTION: Use a 9V Alkaline battery only. A 9V Nicad battery may
leak or explode causing personal injury.
Sensors
SmartZone™ controllers are equipped to operate a sensor with
normally-closed leads. To install a sensor, remove the jumper wire
from the sensor port and insert the sensor's wires. See sensor
manufacturer's instructions for specific installation details.
The sensor port on the SmartZone™ is located to the right of the
zone terminal strip. If a sensor has suspended watering, an E6 error
will appear on the LCD. The error message will stop when the sensor
has dried out, or when the controller is set in the sensor override
mode (see page 5). When either of these actions occur, the controller
will resume operation based on information displayed.
