2.8.2. Ash box cleaning. Before removing the ash pan, allow the fire to go out completely, taking
care that the ashes do not contain hot embers; always place the ashes in a metallic bin.
2.8.3. Interior cleaning of the appliance and sweeping the chimney. It is important to regularly
clean the inside of the appliance and the flue ways. The frequency of the cleaning will depend of
the regularity of use, and the fuel type and quality. It is necessary check and sweep the chimney at
least once a year by a qualified chimney sweep.
2.8.4. Painting. The paint that covers the interior and exterior of the appliance is designed to
withstand temperatures of up to 600 ºC. The appliance finish will cure when first used. It may give
off unpleasant odours during the first few times of use. After few uses this smell will disappear
leaving only the pleasant smell of burning wood. It is possible, after a period of use that the painted
finish in some parts of the interior of the flue may loosen due to corrosive liquids, poor fuel quality
or the use of unauthorised fuel type, etc. In this case it will be necessary to repaint all the damages
areas.
2.9. In case of a chimney fire. In case of a chimney fire fully close both the air controls and
ensure that all flammable items are at least 1000 mm away from any part of the fireplace. The
house must be evacuated and the Fire Bridge called. Special care must be taken when children or
elderly people are around.
2.10. Operating in adverse weather. It is possible that in certain weather conditions the fireplace
may not operate correctly, insufficient flue draft may cause puffs of smoke from the air inlets, close
both the controls to shut down the appliance. If these phenomena persist, consult your installer.
2.11. Modification of the appliance. Any modification must be authorized in writing by
Manufacturers Rocal SA. It is also compulsory to use the spare pieces recommended by
Manufacturers Rocal SA.
