Sensor heads

The scope of delivery comprises a set of four different axis
measuring heads (WA 900 = cable version or WA 920 = radio
version). These differ in accordance with their position at the
vehicle (front left-hand side, front right-hand side, rear left-hand
side, rear right-hand side).
The axis measuring head always consists of the transverse toe
arm with the CCD unit, the short opposite arm with a counter-
weight which also contains the battery compartment in the case
of the radio sensors as well as the actual head casing.
The head casing contains the following mechanic components.
An adjusting ring through which the measuring head holding pin
of the gear clamping holder or of the park position at the mobile
chassis is inserted. A locking lever which prevents a slipping off
of the measuring head from the holding pin as well as a screw lock
which prevents a back and forth movement of the measuring head
and whose toggle is simultaneously used as carrying handle for
the measuring head.
The measuring head electronics consists of the display and
operation PCB, the socket plate, the inclinometer PCB and the
main PCB with the micro controller and the system firmware
which is in the EPROM.
In the case of the radio sensors, the transceiver PCB with an
integrated aerial will be supplied additionally.

Various LEDs on the display and operation PCB display the
operating mode. If the measuring head is supplied with the
operating voltage, all LEDs (A-M) on the display and operation
PCB will illuminate for approx. 1 second. After that, the operating
mode LED (B) in the operating mode collection key will illuminate
continuously.
In the case of radio sensors, the switch on the display and
operating field must thus be pressed in position „1", and the
charging state of the batteries must be sufficient. If this is not the
case, none of the LEDs will illuminate or the red charging warning
light (A) next to the ON/OFF switch starts to flash.
In case of cable measuring heads, the supply voltage is supplied
via the cables which have been connected to the mobile chassis.
The difference between the cable sensor and the radio sensor at
the operating unit is the fact that an On/Off switch and the red
LED (A) are missing.

If the data bus connection to the PC has been established, the PC
has been switched on and the axis measuring program has been
started, and if the correct sensor type has been selected, two
LEDs of the electronic water level will continue to illuminate and
the communication LED (M) in the middle starts flashing.
Exception: During the calibration process, only the yellow opera-
ting mode LED (C) will be flashing.
! The LED (B) only indicates that an 8V supply voltage is
present. In the case of the cable sensor, the supply voltage
±15V cannot be present, either.
If the radio sensors are operated with a cable, you have to make
sure that the sensor type remains set to „radio sensor" in spite of
this. This is necessary since the baudrates of the two sensor types
differ (cable sensor (up to firmware 1.1), 4800 baud, cable/radio
sensor (starting at firmware 1.1) 9600 baud).
