Keep fingers and hands away from ro-
tating parts. This reduces the risk of
entanglement and cutting injuries.
Do not use on operating/filled pipe (hot
tapping). When working on an existing
system, the pipe must be drained and
depressurized prior to cutting. This re-
duces the risk of electrical shock and
other serious injury.
Keep your fingers and hands away from
the press attachment during the oper-
ating cycle. Your fingers or hands can
be crushed, fractured or amputated if
they are caught between the tool, at-
tachment, components and any other
object.
Large forces are generated during press
tool use that can break or throw parts
and cause injury. Stand clear during use
and wear appropriate protective equip-
ment, including eye protection.
Use proper tool, attachment and fitting
combinations. Improper combinations
can result in an incomplete joint, which
increase the risk of leaks, equipment
damage and injury.
Follow setup and operation instruc-
tions to reduce the risk of injury from
crushing and other causes and to pre-
vent tool damage.
1. Confirm have appropriate work area
(See General Safety Rules). Operate in
clear, level, stable, dry location.
2. Inspect the work to be done. Determine
the pipe type and size, and clearance
around the pipe. Determine the size and
location of the hole to be cut. Holes can
only be made in straight sections of pipe.
Follow the fitting manufacturer's instruc-
tions to confirm a proper installation. De-
termine the correct material and e quip ment
for the job. See the Description and Spec-
ification sections for tool information.
Properly prepare the Pipe surface per the
fitting manufacturer's instructions. The
surface should be free of scratches, rust
and damage. This ensures the integrity of
the pressed connection. It may be nec-
essary to remove oil or other coatings on
the material.

Setting Up the Drill Guide
3. Clearly mark the desired hole centerline
location. Use lines at least 1
long so that they extend past the Guide
base for alignment. Make sure that
there will be enough space for the
equipment. Follow fitting manufacturers
instructions for positioning and spacing
of fittings.
4. Make sure that the pipe to be cut is well
supported and stable. The pipe must be
able to handle the weight of the equip-
ment and the forces applied during cut-
ting without moving.
If working on an existing system, make
sure that the system has been depres-
surized and drained. The MegaPress
Press-In Branch Connector Installation
Kit is not designed for hot tapping pur-
poses. Cutting into pressurized or sys-
tems with fluids in them can cause
spills, electrical shock and other serious
injury. Know the contents of the pipe
and any specific hazards associated
with the contents.
5. Inspect and set-up the drill per its oper-
ator manual.
Use a drill equipped with a clutch to limit
torque and an auxiliary handle to resist
drill reaction forces during operation.
6. Inspect and set-up the vacuum as per
its operator's manual.
Use an industrial vacuum rated for use
with hot chips. The vacuum hose nozzle
should be 1
1
/
" (32 mm) outside diame-
4
ter or use an appropriate adapter. Clean
and empty the vacuum prior to and im-
mediately after each use to reduce the
risk of fire from hot chips.
7. Make sure all equipment has been in-
spected and set-up as directed in their in-
structions.
1. Confirm that the chain is hanging freely
and the adjusting nut is fully loosened
on the drill guide.
2. Securely grasp the drill guide and
squarely place the V-shaped base on
