2 Structure
The 3/2−way ball valves of the VZBA series comprise:
a housing with the corresponding piping connections,
a soft−sealed ball with an L− or T−shaped hole as valve seal,
an anti−blow−out control shaft with spindle washer and position indicator. The
direction of the slot on the shaft corresponds to the flow direction.

3 Function
The rotation of the mounted semi−rotary drive or hand lever is transmitted to the
control shaft of the ball valve. The control shaft transmits the rotation onto the
soft−sealed ball with L− or T−hole.
Depending on the switching position, the ball blocks
or enables the flow. The ball valves VZBA can be
switched by 90° into two possible end positions. The
possible end positions are dependent on the assem
bly of the semi−rotary drive used or the hand lever.
4 Application
Used as intended, the ball valves of the series VAPB serve as valves and fittings
for the flow control of neutral, liquid and gaseous fluids in piping systems.
The products are tailored to the requirements of the process industry
(è catalogue www.festo.com/catalogue). They are suitable for use in the chemi
cal and petrochemical industries.
The ball valves can be operated with an appropriate semi−rotary drive (flange to
ISO 5211) or hand lever.
Operation with abrasive media and with solid materials is impermissible.
Before using the product, check the compatibility of the medium with the
materials of the product in order to prevent damage caused by the medium
(è Technical Data).
Note that the permissible limit values such as operating pressures and tempera
tures, as well as individual load may not be exceeded.
The ball valves VZBA are inappropriate for permanent intermediate positions
and for controlling the flow rate. This type of operation can damage the seals
and is impermissible.
Welding into a pipeline is impermissible.
Use appropriate fittings to bolt the product to the pipeline.

5 Transport and storage
Take into account the weight of the product. Depending on the design, the product
weighs over 7 kg (è Fig. 7).

Ensure the following storage conditions:
Short storage periods in cool, dry, shaded and corrosion−protected locations.
6 Requirements for product use
Fitting and commissioning is to be carried out only by qualified personnel in
accordance with the operating instructions.

Note
The product can be damaged by incorrect handling and failure to observe regula
tions.
· Make sure that all the instructions in these operating instructions are ob
served. The product will then function correctly and reliably.
Compare the maximum values specified in these operating instructions with
your actual application (e.g. operating media, pressures, temperatures, masses,
flow rates).
Take into consideration the ambient conditions at the location of use.
Operate the product only in combination with neutral, liquid and gaseous fluids.
Use the product in its original condition without unauthorized modifications.
Use the product only in perfect technical condition.
Comply with all valid national and international regulations.
For the ball valve, comply with the same safety regulations as apply also to the
piping system.
The user/operator is responsible for proper application and for compliance with
relevant safety regulations when operating the ball valves.
7 Assembly
Assembly and operation only by trained specialist personnel.
Warning
Danger or crushing! Danger of shearing!
When the ball valve is operated, body parts can be crushed or cut off in the ori
fice of the ball valve.
· Do not reach into the orifice of the ball valve.
