2 Safety
The DET GRAS N unit has suitable measures for its use in laboratory. However, the
fat analysis method can be hazardous and the user must be informed of some of
those risks.
2.1 Hazards
It identifies the risk and the safety actions to be applied.
The symbols make reference to the paragraph marked with a grey line.
Hazard of contact with corrosive and flammable solvents
Hazard of contact with solvents. Follow the instructions for the described operation.
Hazard of electrical shock
Electric hazard for entering in areas marked with this signal, or for following the
manual instructions marked by this icon.

Hazard of burns to be in contact with hot surfaces
Temperature in the heater surface exceeds 60ºC. Use the describer tools to perform
the operation on the unit.
Do not touch the heater surface and the beakers during and after extraction process.
2.2 Risks to which the operator is subjected
The process of determination of fat with the described equipment exposes the opera-
tor to the following situations of risk:
•
Manipulation of solvents
•
Manipulation of glass parts
•
Possibility of touching parts hotter than 60ºC
•
Electrical risk.
2.3 Personnel training
This equipment must only be operated by personnel trained and suitable qualified to
work in a chemical laboratory and its common hazards.
This equipment must only be operated by personnel who have read and understood
this manual or have been qualified on its manipulation and operation.
2.4 Proper use of the equipment
This equipment is for laboratory use, for sample fat extraction. Mainly in soxhlet
analysis.
The improper use of this unit (not following manual instructions) can endanger the
protection prepared by the equipment.
This equipment its NOT designed and not manufactured to work in an explosive
ambient area except the ones described on this manual.
2.5 Modifications
The operation modification or the manipulation of the safety systems unauthorized by
the manufacturer, could expose the operator to hazards not indicated in this manual.
In particular, do not operate the unit without the cover on the IP55 waterproof boxes.
