Valve clearance adjustment
When the engine is at the TDC during the compression stroke
(all marks aligned) check and if necessary restore the right valve
clearance by working the rocker arm adjusting screws as follows:
– Insert a feeler gauge between screw and valve stem top.
Check the following parameters:
Tightening torque of the adjusting screw
lock nuts
Valve clearance - Intake
Valve clearance - Exhaust
– Refi t the valve cover, cover and fan.
•
Reassemble the spark plug and restore the electrode gap
(0.8 ↔ 0.9 mm) otherwise replace it with one NGK CR8E type or
equivalent. Tightening torque 13 Nm.
•
It is recommended to change the engine oil.
•
Reassemble the engine on the vehicle following the disassembly
procedure in the reverse order.
The base and head gaskets can not be used again, thus every time
you disassemble the cylinder this must be reassembled with new
gaskets.
Running-in is very important because it allows to all the new parts
to gradually settle. Failure to follow the rules set for the running-in
period could cause damages or strange deformations that would lead
to a loss of power or likely seizure. We therefore recommend to avoid
using the vehicle at its maximum power for the fi rst 500 km.
